Your State May Do This Too - Free Oil Drain Containers

I was at AutoZone picking up a few things when I learned that there is a California government recycling program offering free six quart oil containers.

I scanned http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/ but didn't see any specific info, so I don't know:

Which auto parts stores / other locations are distributing
    How many are available
    How often they are replenished

    YMMV

This would come in handy lol I just use a pan and then pour it back into the oil jug gets real messy. I haven't seen anything over here about this, I'll look into it though. Best bet would be to call up that number on there and see what you can find out.

I usually fill up old beer bottles and cans and deposit them in the recycle center.

Makes a great deer repellent and weed killer along the back fence.

I don't know of anywhere in Ontario that does this, however, if you use your old oil container and take it to a Hazardous Waste Depot, it will get recycled. No additional cost. Can drop off filters too.

Def.....used it in a gravel driveway on occasion.

It came from the earth.....it can go back.

I picked up four of these, btw. Two for me, two give away.

Wrong logic...true that it came from the earth, but thousands of feet below the water bed. Pouring onto your driveway will eventually contaminate the water.

O'Reilly Auto Parts also does this.

They had an oil filter exchange program going on at the same time, so I exchanged some old filters too

I don't drink water. The gvmn puts all kinds of stuff, worse than some oil, in it.

The local community college was doing this a few years ago, just piled in front of the library. Took one and I grabbed about 5 funnels a day, so every time I topped off I would just use a brand new funnel.

we've had free curbside oil recycling here for years. just stick your oil container next to your regular recycling, it disappears like magic.

What was the quality of the filters like? I don't know if I would trust a free oil filter :p
