    i love yellowtops

so my old reliable yellowtop is going to be entering its 3rd vehicle since i bought it about 3 years. hopefully it will serve the e30 well. its been through 2 or 3 alternators, a bad electrical short that drained the battery to around 10v for about 30 nights, and one time i left the lights on during an extended weekend for 4 days. not only did i drain it that bad but to get started again a couple girls in an explorer jumped it for me... not usually good for gel cell's, or really any battery. most dont come back from a draining like that.

anyways its been sitting since the beginning of august 2005 and i just checked the voltage today, 12.25, so i trickle charged it back to 12.80, and it tested to 840 cranking amps. it was about 74F when i tested it. not bad at all!! i think it was rated for 780CA.

Yup. I've got a RedTop in my car, it was there when I bought it. I was stoked as fuck when I popped the trunk and saw it there.

They're referring to Optima batteries. Search online, I'm sure you'll find a vendor.

I have seen these batteries and am interested in getting them but are they all the same? I thought for cars we are supposed to use the redtops or does it matter?

Yellow tops are deep cycle. Either of them will work, but the Red top is cheaper.

Dry cell batteries FTW. In the winter, when it was -5, my car still started right up like it was 70 degrees.

Just so youse guys know, they are neither dry or gel. They are built differently than standard batteries, but the same lead/acid construction.

I have been using Optima batteres for many years now. I sell them too, if anyone in this area needs one, I sell them at cost.

I have driven a car with no alternator for 3 days, booming, on a dead alternator with a redtop!

                    Gotta love them Optimas.

                      yellow/red tops are awesome batteries.

Another good option is an Exide Orbital, I run one in my e30 and its very nice.

Are deep cycle batteries better? Is there an advantage of having the yellow top over the red top?

                          Thanks
