Offciers quote the law wrongly ALL the time. The loud exhaust or stereo is actually a set decibel level. I believe its 93 or 95. Thing is, there is no way the officer by ear can tell if its above that unless hes got a tool to measure decibels. There was a big case where this asian dude took the police department all the way to I believe the State Supreme Court and won since its completely up to the officer and they are not trained to tell the difference between 94.5 dB and 95.4 dB. Fuck em, they abuse the position of power here so much and people just assume their word is god. For instance NO WHERE does it state in the vehicle code that you have to stop for 3 seconds at a stop sign, which officers put down as the reason for the ticket. All it says in the VC is a "cessation of movement". Its just a myth and a tool for raising revenue for the city that everyone keeps it alove that this magical 3 seconds has to be achieved. Plus 3 seconds is so subjective. Ive gotten my brother off of 2 stop sign tickets with said argument. Misplaced trust in authority. These tickets go through and people pay the fine due to this supposed 3-second assumption. It rules when you know your rights and the law cuz its up to you to prevent wrongful shit happening to you legally. It applies all the way up the line.

mariano, did you read this part?

looks like when you take the cops up on an issue, they just change the law so you can't win anymore

Note: New law (27150.2 VC) does not require law enforcement to use sound level meters to test for excessive noise. Citation is based on officer's judgment. Cited violators may have testing done at smog referee stations or may be directed by the court to have testing done. Vehicles in violation must be brought into compliance. A fine may also be imposed.

I had this problem on my car, they don't mention that it cost $50 to go to a smog referee for each offense! so you get illegal exhaust, and intake, then yo just pissed away $100 to prove that they incorectly cited you.

hmm, apparently my dad's factory installed window tint is illegal in CA...

I've driven my car for two years without a ticket for not having a front plate. My friend got one while driving his dad's TT, but that's the only plate ticket I've heard of outside Chicago.

It is a police state in many respects, not just modding cars. If you do mod your car in such an obvious way that it screams for attention, then expect to get pulled over. Keep a low profile and you should be fine. The visable mods on my car are kept to a minimum for that purpose plus its a less enticing target to any prospective vandal or theif. Just a lowered ride height (IE Stg 3s), 15" factory euroweaves, and polished Stromung tips poking out the back. No stickers, no tint, no BS. Because of my simple, understated approach to modding my car, I never get pulled over.

Well, even a stock E30 ///M3 looks out-of-this world to your run of the mill pig, so imagine my splittered and E3 Nurburgring setting winged mofo. And Eric, yes I know. Its sad. Ive gotten like 4-5 no front plate tickets on both my cars in the span of 3 years of licensed driving. Its not worth it. Plus now they have the option to just fine you and not make it a $10 fix-it ticket.

your intercooler sticks out like a sore thumb.. I'm not surprised. I don't know how it would affect performance but if that were my car I'd anodize it black or cover it somehow.
