My best friend had a 325e with the BMP kit and stuff, so when my friend's family was selling my E30 for $3,000 I had to have it.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

A friends dad had (still has) a daytona violet 95 m3 that poisoned his sons mind, and mine in turn. After we realized that an e36 m3 was a bit too much car for a first car, we set our sights on E30's, and the e30sport people set the hook. I begged and pleaded for one for 2 years (from 8th to 10th grade), and I finally got my white '87 325IS for my 16th birthday. The key came with my slice of birthday cake at Carabbas, and it was parked in the side parking lot. Best birthday ever :D

      I still want my e36 m3 though....

I was in the market for a winter beater, searched the classifieds and came up with an 85 325e. My thoughts were,: rear wheel drive, 5 speed, inline 6 and leather? Sounds damn good to me. Lots of donuts are possible with that....
Went to look at the car when I was high, haha. The left rear shock tower was rusted out, and actually BROKEN OFF!, lol. Body was bad, and it had 198k on it.
I was high, so I was like "I'll take it!" and didn't even negotiate the price.
After about $2k worth of parts and a shitload of labor on my part, the car is reliable, and fun to drive, but it's still ugly, and I love it....

            Damn...ok...

Well, lets see. My dad used to be a proud Honda owner, he had two Accords back in teh early to middle 80's, don't remember stupid gen numbers, I hate that...I prefer e and then teh number :p

Anyway, my dad met Russ Wiles, some of you may know him, he owns an E36 Lightweight M3, lives in Brookings, SD. (I was actually born here, and lived there for a good 10 years ;))

But, he drove Rus' 325is, and fell in love. He brought his two cars in and traded them for a brand new Salmon Silver 1988 325is - he still had a difference to pay. ;)

He started going to Octoberfest, and everything. He cooked his rotors once with bad pads - he didn't know a lot then.

But, let's see... He then bought an old E28 535is, very good car. he got that thing up to over 300,000 miles, I think it's still running today in Woodbury, MN. After that car, he bought a 1990 535i, we still have that now. (he sold his 88 325is to Mike Bartly in SD before we moved to MN around 97)

We now have 4 BMW's, counting mine:
2000 528i Touring with Sport Package (my dad saw the five speed and fell in love... :p)
1995 E36 M3 (damn fun car to drive, still near stock - only has chip)
1990 535i - just turned over to around 168,000 miles I think - damn good car, I wish it was a 5 spd though...
            And mine, a 1987 325 :D

Needless to say, I didn't know much about E30's, or cars in general, when it came to motors or stuff. I knew BMW's, and could name models and stuff, but never could see myself working on the car.

Since I've owned my 325, I've learned a lot. I now know I can do pretty much anything if I really want to, just takes some time and patience - anything to save money, ya know? :P

My dad loves BMW's, and, naturally, I do too. I've driven other cars, and they just aren't the same. Nothing beats a BMW...

got license, needed first car.... was offered my step grandmother's '87 325is for about $3750.... didn't know if i wanted the car or not. I didn't know jack shit about BMW, i thought the car sucked.

I started to do searches on google and lookup online info. I found BEN and began reading everything there realizing that this was actually a very good car.

E3S had just been started and I began reading all of that info and decided that I had to have the car.

I got the car, but its been tough love. I beat it up a couple times... its beat me up (and my wallet). Damn thing still runs... I need to give it some attention and fix its nagging issues. I want to buy a clean and fresh 318is so bad, but i couldn't do it unless i got rid of this car... and I just can't bare to part with it.

I was looking for a replacement to my Audi 5000s, I needed something a little more sportier, more of a car a guy should have. I asked my friend who I shoot the shit with when talking cars, from AE86's to anything else. He told me to look at old 240's and cheap Japanese cars.

Well we got to talking about how German made cars are sweeter, he and I always agreed on that, especially the upcoming Audi S4. Anyways, he said look at BMW. I said look at my wallet. He said "nah get an E30." The fuck is an "E30"? He gave me the gist of them, and how they looked nice hooked up. I looked online for more info on these cars.

I stumbled upon Jordan's site which had his project E30 in pictures, and under the forum links, next to E30sport.net it said "All around best forum for E30's." And I learned everything from there, from Lukas website to T.J.'s car. Then I saw Dave's M-Technic Cabrio, and I was stunned, wowed. I loved it.

I told my dad who is an independent dealer to look out for a '89-'91 325iS. He found a 318iS. Which became my car. And I haven't stopped putting money in it ever since ;)
                Reminiscing...

My mom had a van, and since us children were growing up, she didn't need something so big anymore. At her workplace there is always a black e30 with rims parked there, and she said it looks nice.
Our mechanic has always been a BMW fanatic, and he told my dad we should make a project out of it. So my dad (with tips from our mechanic) started the search for an e30 that suits my mom: 4 door, has to be an i (our mechanic said don't bother with an eta :P) and it has to be automatic. It needs to have a clean body and a blown motor, because the only way we could afford one is to buy it broken and fix the motor.
One day my dad found my car, went to check it out and got all bummed out because it was a 5 speed. He said it would be a good idea for me. I decided I was over driving my sentra (1.5l carb'ed straight 4 hooked up to a automagic tranny, it was an absolute beast).
                  Been hooked ever since.

                  EDIT: BMWplanet -> e3s -> r3v

Back in high school, I saw a nice red pre-88 E30 on my way so school every so often. It had the full RD package (body kit, wheels, interior, and probably suspension) and ever since then I knew I wanted one just like it.

But I almost bought a Beretta GTZ since I couldn't find an E30 I liked in my price range. Damn, what was I thinking...

....always wanted one as a kid. I Bought a 1984 325e in 1998 and that's where it all started. Followed with an 87 325i, 90 325iS auto, 90 325iS 5 speed, 88 super eta and I dunno what's next...maybe an m42.This is a passionate addiction  It gets better yet worse with time..

I used to want an eclipse turbo sooo bad. But then my brother's fiance told me that they were peices of shit...so i started to look for other things..

i wanted something 6 cylinder, rear wheel drive, and a manual.

A guy at my school had a ragged ass 325e, which for some reason i thought was sooo sporty and cool looking....i soon found an ad in autotrader. for a white 1990 325i with 94k miles. this was 9 months before i got my lisence...we show up and i fall in love with the car (without even being able to drive a manual well). So the car sat for the better part of 9 months, with brief spirited runs when my parents were home ; ).

I found BEN and stayed with it a long time and heard rumours of some guys starting a website called "e30sport.net" but apparently the idea died and i stayed with BEN, i then joined DTM as well....then WHAM...BEN goes down, random members start poping up on various boards and then e30sport appears....but alas it was too good to last....and now R3V.....

im not even sure why i picked a BMW as i didnt know shit about them when i first got it, and my brother was a muscle car freak....fate eh?

                          5 years later...

Quite simple, ask David325is and read Clay'87is' response.

As soon as I got my driving permit I started looking for cars. All within the $4500 range, and I wanted something that didin't need any major work. Found a '91 318is on AutoTrader.com for a good price. I was looking for a car that would keep its value longer than a honda, while still being reliable. The day I got my license, was the same day I picked up my car. 1 PO, all records, good price, with exactly 180,000 miles on it in my driveway.

my brother came home from michigan years ago with a burgundy (spelling?) 325, automatic, not in the best condition but I loved it. And then it was given to me and then I ran into a few wals on the freeway with it :(
