That's pretty close.

So who's going to make a mid engine S54 powered E30? Any takers?Leave a comment:

BMW quotes the weight of the S54 at 217kg, or 478lbs.
It affects handling.
The front end feel is blunted. By comparison an E30 M3 feels extremely easy to control and crazy easy to pitch the car exactly to the attitude you want it to be at. However, it is hard to ignore the power and torque of the S54. You control the car's attitude with throttle.
An S54 (and the S50/S52) fundamentally change how you drive an E30 on the track. The car is still lightweight and predictable, but stock for stock you have around 80% more power at the wheels than a bone stock, healthy S14. It's very hard to ignore.Leave a comment:

IMO an e30 should be light an agile (this coming from a rally fan)
Bmw raced this plat form with powerful 4cylinders and racing transmissions for a good reason.. S54 is a beauty but track wise..
I'm building a rally e30 and thinking a built 4cylinder says "Legendary group B" all over it.

So that's 375lbs with accessories
328.5lbs for the M52 in the same trimLast edited by Andy Mechnic; 02-19-2015, 07:46 PM.Leave a comment:

I love how this thread transformed from how an S5X swap will ruin an E30 (it doesn't) to talk about oddball 4 cylinder engines from all sorts of different car manufacturers. :)Leave a comment:
