Been buffing out scratches, swirls, sealing the paint, interior, swapped out the wheels for more period correct ones with shit tires I had lying around within the last 3 days.

    Done:
    - 85% of interior (I need to take a jet steamer to the interior if I can)
    - clayed, cut or polished, and sealed bonnet, roof, trunk.
    - passenger side doors, fenders, rear quater looked somewhat beat. Although seemed acceptable to skip the claying and proceeded with 105 to cut deep scratches/swirls and sealed with m21
    - wheels a little bit more suited to the 7.

Still have to do the whole
    - driver side fender
    - driver side doors
    - driver side rear quarter panel
    - rear plate tray area
    - ALL rubber trims
    - ALL chrome trims

Interior was covered in cat and dog hair but extremely salvageable
Seats smelt like dog. Remedied both by about 90%

exterior started as this courtesy of sellers photo. I didn't take any pictures upon acquiring vehicle, was too busy

edit: actually I took one pic before I went to town on the detailing and swapped wheels after

    As of evening of Tuesday.

Very reflective mirror finished le bonnet Monday night.

more pictures of paint correction tomorrow, hard to tell with the phone camera probably.

    .... flipped pictures wtf

I think I'm going to seal the rust with something, as long as no air should not further oxidize or get worse.

        Love my E23!

They are wonderful cars and can be made to handle well. Mine surprises just about everyone on drives with the local CCA. It's no M3, but with good springs and some monster sway bars, it will hold it's own.

Pretty good E23 group over at bimmerforums.

@george more incoming since you requested

@Flint, I've checked it out as you suggested. Seems all e23 forums have low traffic or are dead :( Also you have quite an amazing BMW arsenal there 8-)

I don't have enough pictures or any proper pictures of during my detailing portion but here are the best two pictures I have showcasing the difference

You can see on this picture the rear door was finished, all 4 doors and portions of the rear quarter had the same nasty swirls with the right side 2 doors being the worst

Will do a better shoot when I have more charged battery.

I decided to not buff off all the swirls and scratches (better but still visible when close)

          Got a few quick questions

Would GM syncromesh Friction Modified be good to use on the metric mechanic rebuilt getrag 260? I've been using that exact GM fluid for the past decade doesn't matter which car make and model. It's been a miracle fluid for all sorts of transmission ailments but not sure of these transmissions

how would Rotella T6 5w-40 do on the MM stroker motor to 3826cc?

          Thanks

funny how people say it's huge - this thing is probably 300lbs lighter and 18" shorter than a new 335i. :p

Good work on the detailing, it's amazing what can be achieved if you put the time in.

Your car's a manual, that must be rare in the US. Mine was a manual, but even here most E23s were sold as autos. Loving that wood trim too, but if it were mine I'd ditch that steering wheel.

@Nando During the time I suppose it was, compared to today's econ sedans/saloons it'll be roughly similarly sized  Still really heavy though

@George Thanks, I will possibly retreat the wood and darker. Shift knob and wheel are in the works of being changed

@Retro Thanks, it's all patients, certain degree of skill, attention to detail, and knowing how you want the clear and the paint to end up. It definitely is rare state side, even an auto one  I'm curious as to how many 7s were made and how many were available with a manual transmission.
I'd prefer a different style of wheel as well. wood trim of different design OR with the Mtech wheel. It's open for trades, the Personal Lesmo wood is listed over 660$ amazon usd =p

As for shift knob(s), would anyone know if this would fit? I would like to see some bmw wood shift knobs if possible.
