My 84 Rabbit was similar looking, esp the interior. The tan cloth and tan steering wheel. Man I miss that car.

...then again, I sure am glad I don't have it anymore!

For sure get another E30. Maybe a sedan 318i and just make it MINT with the spare cash. 318i's go for ever because the M10 doesn't really care... Ask me how I know. Another good thing about the M10 is if one of your friends drives it, they can't get into too much trouble.

Maybe even a 2002? They are a lot more reliable than what people lead you to believe. M10 with a rock solid gearbox is a winning combination. Plus, chicks dig em'. Especially roundies... And you could get a very solid 2002 for that much, not to mention they will always gain value.

You could rebuild an E30 to like new for 20k. I'd put the money in the bank and drive the E30. Even if you have to pay a shop to fix stuff that goes wrong, you'll still come out on top.

Damn flyboyx, that's exactly what I wanted! All I need is the aftermarket spoiler for the downforce and I'll be the hottest shit on the streets!

E46 M3 will kill you in maintenance. also, way too nice of a car to bring to college.

how about something cheap/Japanese? something awful like a lexus - some of those come in RWD. finding a manual may be tough. or perhaps a Subaru? or maybe an infinity - you can get one with RWD, manual, and they even come with an LSD (suck it BMW).

    I'm assuming it's an N54 car if it's a similar price to an E46 M3

You have an issue with cars that are "prone to frequent maintenance" and then you turn around and look at two of the most maintenance intensive BMWs you could find lol. Vanos/rod bearings/subframe/valve adjustments/SMG pump(if it is SMG, and hasn't been done yet) and on the other, Injector/HPFP/Wastegate rattle/carbon buildup issues/all the extra complexity of two turbos.

Not saying they aren't good cars, but they definitely aren't low maintenance.

Even if you paid a mechanic to fix your car, you would still end up paying less than you would for a new car. And if you get a loan for the new car it's even more still since you'll be paying tons of interest.

Something that carries more than 2 people would make for a decent college mobile too. So there rules out a miata. But with a e36 or e46 m3 you can ride away in grace and honor with your chariot full of serioty sisters.
