    E30 Tourings still cool?

Hey all, Im originally from Colorado, but have lived in a podunk town in central Germany for the last two years. I have been a German auto fanatic for quite a while. So far ive had a 1991 525i, 2001 B5 S4, 1983 533i, 1991 318is, 2000 528 Dinan, and now a sweet 1991 320 Touring, because Germany.

I realize that the days of overpriced Tourings are probably over as they are hitting the magic 25 year mark, However i thought it would be a fun wat to make some extra cash with something i love, by sourcing quality Tourings (or anything else that's un-availabe in the states), take care of paperwork, inspections and shipping on the German end of things. I'm centrally located in Germany, have good contacts with well respected mechanics, and have researched the process to ship autos to the states.

If anyone has any input and thinks this is a good idea or not, i would be happy to hear about it.

    Thanks, Josh.

Yes there is someone in california, los angles that does that but his tourings are shit. If you can get some nice ones here it would be awsome. Also look for german goodies and send em up here. Trust me you will make more money if you take a couple bucks off everything. These days people in the states are trying to get 650 for bosch smileys.

E30's are going up in price here too, most are completely rusted out. a good one costs 2000 to 4000 euros, But they really dont care about tourings. here is an IX touring for 2,500 http://www.autoscout24.com/Details.a...000000&asrc=st

I lolled at the thread title. They are still cool, but the hype is dying down a bit. I'd say ship 316i tourings over here. The coolest kids are gonna swap them anyway and they must be more common/less desirable over there. I'd love a 316i touring, in technoviolet, please and thank you.

I've been keeping an eye on the Tourings for sale in the USA for almost a year, and the hype seems to have died down a little. There are still so few of them that demand exceeds supply, but no one seems willing to pay ridiculous prices.

A rust-free 325i Touring with A/C would be a "unicorn", and would go for a premium price, maybe as much as $15k if otherwise in really good condition.

Good advice in a previous post regarding 316i Tourings. They would sell all day for $6k if reasonably rust free.

Biggest thing I noticed is how few have A/C. That would add to the value of any Touring.

I'm closing in on a solution for my lack of garage space, which will allow me to go full bore on my Touring search. Can't wait.

Good luck with your side business idea. Have your satisfied customers post here and on other E30 sites. Then people like me will start contacting you to help find them Tourings.

Would you be able to source and ship interior parts, such as seats or door panels? Or perhaps an MtechII kit? Or engines?

I had no idea people wanted 316's, they are a bit cheaper here. Pretty sure i can find most anything you want as far as e30's go, rarer things may of course take time. If anyone has any request im willing to give it a go right now!

as a side note while i was looking at e30s today, i discovered e28 535's, even automatic, go for over 10k Euro's. Maybe a Touring, e28 exchange program is in order.

Can anyone who has successfully imported a car chime in or PM me?

I have some questions regarding the price and process of the US/Cali side of registering a car here.

                            8. Importing a vehicle that is at least 25 years old.
A motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the U.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable FMVSS. Such a vehicle would be entered under Box 1 on the HS-7 Declaration form to be given to Customs at the time of importation. If you wish to see that form, you may download a copy from our website at www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import. You should note that the 25 year period runs from the date of the vehicle's manufacture. If the date of manufacture is not identified on a label permanently affixed to the vehicle by its original manufacturer, to establish the age of the vehicle, you should have documentation available such as an invoice showing the date the vehicle was first sold or a registration document showing that the vehicle was registered at least 25 years ago. Absent such information, a statement from a recognized vehicle historical society identifying the age of the vehicle could be used.

This is direct from NHTSA.gov. hope it helps
