Thoughts on insurance with values rising?

Not that e30's are worth a fortune or anything, but how do you guys insure your cars?

I feel my car is worth about $6k and would be heartbroken if it was written off for a dented fender.

Who do you insure with and do you use "agreed value" insurance?

What the hell is a "Hagerty"?

I use a well known company, but I am well over 25, and married. It's pretty cheap. In the state I reside in currently, when I registered my E30 as a classic the Insurance went up. I thought this was a bit odd, so I registered it as normal. It might be different with other companies, so it really pays to shop around.

      -My two cents.

You will get hosed with regular insurance, even if it's stated value, or classic.

Hagerty is a well known classic/collector car insurance where it is your "toy". It must be garage kept, must be your second car (with the newer car at least 10yr newer), can only be driven xx miles/yr etc.

It's an awesome company and is a rider to your regular insurance. My e30 got totaled and they paid every dime of my stated value, no questions asked.

They speciaize in classic car insurance based off real world car value and not KBB.

probably depends on the person (i.e. driving/claim history) and the vehicle insured. only one way to find out - call up and get a quote

If I remember correctly, you need to be 25 or older also to apply for Haggerty

Hagerty is less than daily driver insurance, but also requires you to carry full coverage on your daily. About 2006 when I had it on my Firebird it was mid $200's per year, but the e30 was mid $400's per year both stated about the same value (~$10k).

They're also good for highly- modified cars- most larger carriers don't want to hear
about your Downing Atlanta SuperChanger or your Ronuts wheels, you get 'comparable value'...

I use Hagerty with 10k stated value. It was cheaper than Travelers full coverage for me. That's a no-brainer.

Can you imagine getting a check for some absurdly low amount for your mint e30 because someone couldn't wait to send a text? It happens all the time with run of the mill insurance companies.

                        AAA full coverage. Whatever.
Receipts for everything and getting a 3rd party appraiser to help you out.

Thanks guys. I think i'll just have to ride it out with "stated value", which is to say regular full coverage insurance and try to plead my case if there is an accident. I'm not willing to only drive my car occasionally.
