My car's body is it's weak point- I have basically everything else in decent shape or better. It's probably worth more to part out and sell the shell to be scrapped?

I don't know how much work and mods you've done to the car, but I would just buy a rolling shell and swap everything over and junk the current shell. I know theres a place in Maryland who has a couple of e30 shells that look rust free and only $500 a popMy Garage

The body is pretty bad. Both sides under the doors are kinda banged in like someone jacked them up on the skirt, and they are rusted. There is rust on the rad support, rust under the passenger side fender, rust on the gas tank below the seat cap, rust appearing on one of the rear plate holes. I will probably post pics up because I really like the car and would like to see it be used, not crushed. I am 90% positive I would get more money parting it out than selling it, one look at the bottom is like ooohhh... bad. It has LSD, shitty sports seats, racing dynamics wing, good driveshaft, good steering rack, good engine parts, brand new motor mounts, water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing, h4 low beams, sport wheel, mint rear seats, oil cooler, oil filter housing spacer, new coil, fan and fan clutch, everything engine wise works electronically, new CPS, etc. plus all the other crap like the doors and mirrors and what not.
I could keep it but I feel like I would be throwing money at a car that will undoubtedly have to have all components swapped like you are saying, which I can't do because I can only have one car in the driveway. The money I get from selling or parting isn't the most important thing, I just want to open up my space for a cleaner example. 700th post whoop whoop!BMW tech

^ you're right about one thing: every new part you throw at this thing can be swapped over to a cleaner car later on. Perhaps it's worth keeping your car until you have space for a second? It takes weeks, even months, for parts to sell. It's the nature of the craigslist beast. Can you afford to have your parted e30 in the driveway for months on end?
I'm in a similar boat. I've done many things to my car to make it better, though many of which are convertible-specific things. Which means I can't get a normal car and swap my stuff over. It's a double-edged sword.
The only stuff that jumps out at me is your LSD, rear wing, and plastic bumpers. But from what you're describing, I think you should post pics so the community can judge the rustiness of your car

If you don't have the months to dedicate to a part out then just sell it as is, negotiate to possibly keep some items from the car, sometimes new owners will have things they already have stocked up to install themselves. Find yourself a nicer E30 that will withstand the test of time and get back at improving it.The fun never ends :-?
