    whats an m20 worth?

ive got an m20 with tranny both with about 200k on them
i was just wondering about what theyre both worth, together or seperate?
looking to sell but i wanted to get a rough idea first of what a decent price is

i cant forget to mention the valve cover is painted red, so that should surely guarantee a higher price

not too much man, w/ that kind of mileage, i'd say 500-600 for everything, but even that might be a little too high, although i'm no expert. good luck w/ the sale.

I'd have to agree, they're worth $500 max as a combo. High miles is what kills the price.

Just as a comparison, not too long ago I had possible buyer lined up for my spare '89 M20B25. Its a completely stock engine, just shy of 99K orig. miles, no A/C Comp., alternator, or starter but it does have the wiring harness and intake/exhaust manifolds. We had agreed on $450 for everything then he decided against purchasing it.

kinda ironic... 200k miles normally isnt a issue on Bimmer engines once maintained well (M20) is what u normally hear.

Guess it all lies in the gamble people are afraid to take.

I'd say it depends where you live. If you live in a big city you can sell a engine. If you in butt-fart nowhere, it's a LOT harder - and worth a lot less.

Here in santa barbara, guys usually ebay the head, and throw away the block.

                  hope that helps...

No kidding. I couldn't even give away an M20B25 in FL.

hey, just so you know, this motor actually has 180k on it and within the last 5k miles or less has had water pump, timing belt, all new seals and gaskets and valves adjusted. sean, (jetalone) is my son and this motor came out of my car. i did all this work to the motor before doing my s52 and we ended up putting this m20 in his car before it was wrecked. it has 5k or less on the new parts. its a strong motor with all new ignition parts and anything else i could replace. m20's arent worth a lot but if someone wanted a solid m20 this is the one
motor is in minneapolis and can be shipped
