    Ok I'm sorry but having driven an m30, and have had numerous rides in a s54 e30 m3, you would have to be a god damn FOOL to take an m30 over an s54.

    If you want a rough idle, just alter the vanos map for more overlap.

    Deleting vanos doesnt make more power. Deleting it would just lose q bunch of torque - pointless.

    if money wasn't an issue and I had it my way though, I would build a high rpm short stroke 4.8 ls1 or an S54 with big cams and a vanos delete.

    M54/n52 have superior tq curves while being way lighter. The appeal of the m30 is mostly period correctness and cost.
