It's the 3.0 inline 6 diesel that came in e300 turbo diesels. They are popular for modification because they are 24v and still have mechanical injection. Basically the s52 of the diesel world. Capable of revving high and 2.5 bar boost

Someone brought up the old 2 stroke v8s that came in marine applications. This times 26 million. Much awesome. Such pointless. Very Cool.

Yes, but cheap iron block truck engine != LS engine

All of those iron block junkyard special LQ4/9/L96/LY6/whatever else that people are putting in their cars these days and calling "LS" engines are GM V8s, but they aren't LS engines. Calling an LQ9 an LS engine is like calling an M50 an S54. True cast iron LS engines like the LSX are not cheap or junkyard bound. Those iron block truck engines may be an excellent ingredient in the cheap power recipe, but putting them in light cars like Miatas and E30s is senseless, stick them in something that wasn't made to go round corners like a fox body or a supra potstir

Hell I picked up my 5.3 for $500 a few years ago.

Still the best option for flat out power. 5.3 + boost = Permagrin.
