    Red line/rev limiter

Where does the rev limiter kick in? on my 90 325i it kicks in about 6,500 (which is where the thin red line stops, and the thick one begins) I asumed the previous owner had installed a chip. however this weekend I went for a highspeed run, and the fuel shut off at 125mph (indicates speed limiter)

Any input on wether or not there is a chip in my car?

I got my convertible up to 130 before I scared myself. I'm sure it would still keep climbing slowly. Chipped M20.

1990 and 1991 were limited to 125. A chip is suppose to delete the top speed limiter. In my 1991 325i there is OBVIOUSLY a fuel cutoff at 125mph. Revlimit is at 6450rpm.

Most chips raise the redline to 6,900 so it doesn't sound like you have a chip in your car.

You haven't had any because your engine isn't even running yet!

My car runs out of power at about 144-145...so it seems that the chip does remove fuel cutoff.

Just besafe "testing" your chips and whatnot.

thats what i figured, thanks guys.
for the record there i am certain that there is a feul cut off. I hit it about 4 times last week.
its just hard not to when big long open roads in tri-cities are calling your name. lol

why rev up that far when the engine leans out and you loose power that high. plus if you keep doing that you will probably spin a bearing.

                              Not all.

I have seen over 140mph, bone stock. Repeatedly.

Oh, and to the original poster, the stock limiter is 6400rpm.
