It's just a moronic question. Like, "Hay guis, anyone know where I can find some buried treasure? I know some people bury their valuables for safe keeping, then forget about them or die off before digging them back up. Any tips on where I should start looking?"'84 318i - Lapisblau/Schwarz (in cryosleep)

..oh man, never seen the Bakery thread before, will have to wait until I am bored at work to read through it.
As for this one, it's shaping up to be worth following.
To the OP - you really should have taken a closer look at that shell that sold. It was stripped just about as much as a shell can be, so you were going to almost another 10K just to get it looking like a complete car again. To make it back to an M3 that you could resell for decent money?
Add another 10-15K.
Deals are out there, but you are going to have to lay out some cash before hand..
All that being said. The way to find deals is cruise the backroads of America and visit small towns. You can't just sit behind your PC and wish for a good deal - ain't happening in this day and age. You'll need to do it the old fashion way - like Wayne.
True story: one of my buddies recently found a Renault R5 Turbo that was sitting in a garage for something like 20 years. Guy didn't have the title any more, and there was something wrong with the motor. It had less than 10K on the odometer. The guy didn't want to deal with it, and got tired of looking at it, so he said if my buddy applied for a lost title he could have it.
True story, that it in the photo at his shop. These deals do exist, but you gotta do some old school footwork.

The kinds of deals you are talking about only fall in your lap by chance, usually while talking to someone who doesn't give a shit about what you're in to, but knows someone with one.
Seriously, you can't just go on the internet and find the deal of the century. Those only get found in the real world. Luckily it's getting easier these days, because everyone is living in their phones and not looking around.
So get out there, talk to people, make some friends, and go exploring. After a while take the 15k you've saved not buying the newest iPhone, and buy a E30 M30.No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.

The point was, that these deals do exist, but (and a huge but), is that you have to be in the right place at the right time and know what you are looking at.
You can't just go out and say "I am going to find a $100 Shelby mustang."
My buddy is a BMW guy and never had any interest in owning a French car of any type, but a fellow racer on our Chumpcar team owns an R5 as well and know about this one, so told my buddy about it. They both checked it out and now there's a French oddity hanging out with his various E30's..
Not everyone can always identify the diamond in rough, hence why there may still be barn finds out there. Or, people get old and what was a worthwhile project at 30, had turned in to an eyesore when you hit 65.
But like I keep saying, you got to do the footwork, and peek under every rock or behind every garage door.
Yes, the OP had a really weird way of starting this thread, and brought some amount of ridicule on him, but I think everyone here would love to find the same thing. And I'm just trying to say, those deals do exist, just like winning the lottery.
It could happen.
But odds are highly stacked against it.
