    Broken Rocker

The old girl couldn't handle 4 drivers yesterday. She has performed beautifully at over 200K for the last several years with 3 taking turns on her. I guess we were pushing it....

Car has 204K, turned 200K on the track and it is a dedicated track car with the exception of a 45 minute drive there.

Anyway broke a rocker at NHMS yesterday. Don't want to get into pulling a head, things seem good there.

It has been covered so I know I can do with the head on the car. Looks like I can do without a timing belt by sliding through the sprocket.

    My questions are....

Whats the best way to get the shafts moving?

Has there been a hands down approval of the IE rockers? Looks like they are out of stock so that may not be an option.

This car gets beat, it hits 7500 constantly and depending on what ham fisted driver is driving that session possibly more.....

IE rockers...rock. Used them in an Endurance M20 motor with zero issues

remove the clips on the rockers, and slide them over so there's no tension on any of the springs. I used a screwdriver to compress the springs while I slid the rockers over.

you should be able to more easily push it forward after the rockers are loose. If somebody hasn't hammered the shit out of it or bent it, it shouldn't be too hard. People think you hammer them out but really with no tension on any rockers it just slides out..

          This.

I actually rotate the cam and slide rockers, rotate cam, slide rockers until they are all off the lobes. If the rocker shafts are still shiny, they should slide out easily, sometimes if they are cabon'd up they will take a little force.

Also, dedicated track or race cars could use a hole drilled in the firewall in case you just break a front rocker. Makes the job easier. One of the guys broke a rocker at the Oct 4th Spec e30 race. Had it replaced between races (a few hours).

Also, if you are going to buy rockers, just get the HD's. They are now legal for SE30 racing, and cost only slightly higher than stock replacements.

            Alright thanks guys,

Interesting idea on the firewall holes. The only interior piece left is my dash mainly as a mount for the cluster. I might remove and go that route.

You can leave the dash in. We are required to have them in SE30

Really, that is definitely a good option then. Any chance you could post a photo of how its done? Do the holes run through the dash?

FWIW you can get a Conti Tbelt on amazon for something like $15 shipped. I'd just replace it.
