    oil level sensor necessary?

    Hi all,
When lifting my head gasket I think I snagged the oil level sensor and it snapped where the two clips come together. Or it might have been busted all along, I don't know.

This part about half way down the page

    http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...ENGOIL_pg4.htm

Didn't really want to spend $150 when just the plug is the part that's broke. Is this a necessary part for the engine to run, or is it just a part that measures oil level and trips a light in the car if oil is low? If it's not necessary I'll just skip it as I can check my oil with the dip stick anyway. Although I wouldn't want to see a light on my dash all the time. I assume if it's not plugged in it wouldnt light.

    Thanks for your help

It just measures oil level and tells you when you're a quart low.

Considering that the M20 has a dipstick, and that E36's didn't have an oil level sensor, I think you'll be fine.
