I still consider myself pretty new to the E30, even through my journey started almost 3 years ago.
Personally, I've kept things pretty stock on my '86 325, but I also have reasons. I live in the north, so lowering my car isn't a good idea when I've had to deal with a foot or more of snow on the ground. I've also considerably grown my wrenching skills in the last three years. Except for two trips to a shop, all of my work and maintenance has been done by yours truly. Also, I don't have a ton of money to throw around. This car is also my DD.
I wouldn't mind finding a newer engine for my E30, because I'm really in love with it. Even if it was a lower mileage Eta, with no problems, I'd be happy. If I had some extra geld lying around, I'd at least want to chip it, but to be really honest, I like my car the way it is. I know she's not the fastest or turns the tightest, but I have a blast driving her. And she's still an E30 - I've had countless conversations in parking lots, etc, and have had many offer to buy her.
Case in point - I went on a cruise with fellow BMW drivers here in Ontario this September. My car was the oldest and most stock of the ones present. I wasn't dumb to try to be at the head of the pack or anything, but I had an amazing time and my fellow drivers were actually quite complimentary as to how my little Eta took those roads. I couldn't have been happier.
My goal is to enjoy this car for as long as I can.
