You have to remove the fuel injection harness to replace the coolant temp sensor. Why? They could have just angled it slightly different. 5 minute job turns into 45 minute job. It takes me forever to remove those stupid fuel injector clips. I hate the fuck out of them.

i just unbolted the motor mounts and raised the engine up 2" with a lift. i didn't have to take anything else apart. that method was pretty easy.

My only bitch is the lack of hot dip galvanizing on the body, and general lack of rust protection/ prevention.

Having worked on 2 Volvo P80 chassis (850 Turbo, and a V70 T5) the E30 is simple. As dirt simple as simple can get. When you have to support the engine, and remove the subframe to replace a steering rack you can bitch.

swapping out the pedal box on RHD cars.. What a bastard of a job. Its a fight to the death unless you yank the dash and AC lines

I'm rummaging through 18 continuous years of owning at least 1 e30 and not much makes me frown.

Due to frequency I'd agree that the oil filter is in a dumb ass place. I thought of getting a welding glove or installing a remote filter kit but not much room for it. Waiting for the manifold to cool is a buzzkill.

Then there's the corroded subframe bushings. 2 days and a lot of foul language worth. High on my list

Worst of all is the Bowden cables for the hvac sliders

One job I really hated recently was the inner ball joint nuts for the E30. Not a lot of room to move around in there and all I could really use was a regular old wrench.

Overall, to a person who's first real serious wrenching experience has been on an E30, I don't have a lot of complaints so far.

i don't think this one counts.

    i thought of another one:

replacing the metering valve in the a/c system under the dash. that is a bitch.

Yea 3 times. Even with small hands, the openings are just awkward and doesnt allow very much room for error. That damn clip will fall down the tumbler will pop out and become misaligned. Back to square 1. Stupid doors.

I used a really long flat head and pressed it to the outer skin and just finaggled it into that groove and hoped it gets on there correctly all the while holding the tumbler from the outside. Helps if you put a magnetic LED light on the inside of the door.

Also a magnetic flathead would be ideal for stability.
