I can remember a time on r3v when it was late model coupe or nothing. DB cars used to be way less desirable. I've always loved the early cars with a bumper conversion, either early euro or plastic bumper face lift. You can always get an aftermarket rear valance if the lack of one kills you that much, I personally don't mind the lack of a rear valance. If I could build my dream e30 it would be an early Lapis blue with euro M Tech conversion.

I've always though most early cars look so dated with DB's. The chrome gets pitted, the surrounds fade and warp. The IS airdams look awesome from straight on but the side profile it looks like the car as an underbite.

I've always liked plastic bumpers, they look a lot nicer than the diving boards in my opinion. Just don't like the rear of diving board cars because they look so empty and the bumper looks like a table. I also really like the euro bumpers, especially the rear. Personally, I'd rather own plastic bumpers over the rest though, even m-tech. Just personal preference.

Always funny seeing you guys talk about diving boards. Don't have that issue here. Only the classy euro chrome and... the others. Tbh I dream of owning a classic car and chrome bumpers make it appear older and more classic. My E30 actually just turned 30. This is it, and yes. I know the side of the bumper isn't secured.

I prefer the overall look of plastic. That being said both of my cards are DB, and I wont likely ever convert them unless I strike a killer deal in a JY

I have not been around the e30 as long as most of you, but have owned mine for about 1.5 years. I didn't start really getting into them until a few months back when I planned my V8 swap and color change (from Bronzit). I used to be all about the plastic bumpers, but that's because I am coming from US DB's. Since doing a lot of searching and staring at pictures, etc., I can honestly say that I like the plastics and the chrome Euros the same. To me, it comes down to color choice and overall look. Sporty colors look better with the plastics and classic colors look better with the Euros. I am thinking about going totally retro and painting my car Volkswagen L380 Turquiose (no metallic) and running Schmidt TH Lines. I just ordered a new set of front and rear Euros for my car.

I wanted a plastic bumpered coupe for my first E30 and after looking for what felt like forever ended up with a DB convertible. I planned on converting immediately but the lack of a rear valance would look weird to me. I have full plastic bumper set AND a new M-Tech 2 front bumper and valence but I keep holding out for an M-tech 2 rear valance.

However, since the DBs are tucked on the verts I don't mind as much. Even the back end looks ok to me. On mine is the plastic surrounding the diving boards is painted the body color. That, to me, makes a big difference. The DBs don't look amazing, but they don't look like they were an afterthought as much.
Thank god, R3V was getting boring since the ginger kid wrecked his car. - Stonea

Yes, I bought them through ECS. They are backordered until March though. I am doing a full respray on my car so I wanted to buy new. No, they are by no means "cheap".

Totally worth it to clean up that atrocity of impact standards.

^ I was thinking of that on the way home. What happens if a modern SUV hits me at 3mph? My hood collapses? Thanks 80's US safety standards

Not if you have diving boards.
