    Re-Using Rod bearings......

OK, I expect many of you to flip out about the idea of this. BUT, have any of you done this, and what was your experience like. I know its not recommended, and well as frowned upon. Here is why I ask. I have had these ongoing issues with my POS honda, and have figured out some piece of metal got into my cylinder. While I was taking the engine apart to find the source of the noise, I took the rod bearings out, thinking it was them. They are fine, and my plan is to ditch this car ASAP. I am sick of fixing it. It had a mild failed HG, and thats where this all started. Chime in please.

HAHA, I was thinking that. My father in law put a set in his jeep, did not torque them, just cranked the shit out of the bolts. I came back and torqued them and they are fine. But his were a new set

as long as you didn't mix up shells/bearing caps, they should be fine. are the bolts TTY or can they be reused? that's the only real issue I can think of.

TBH that I am not sure of that. I am going to hope they are not. I have not read that they are anywhere

I reused the rod bearings in my Jetta. They looked perfect, so I figured why not.

Out of curiosity, how many miles did they have on them?

No rule against it. Actually I would recommend it if nothing was changed, easier than worrying about checking clearances and dealing with possible issues.

I would say use a clean finger and lather them up with fresh oil before reinstall.

If the torque spec on the bolts is just a number with no extra angle, they are not torque to yield and can be reused. TTY bolts will say torque to 50 ft. lbs (or whatever amount) and then turn an additional 90ยบ or something like that.
