Did E91's come in manual or non-xdrive in the US? all canadian spec E91's are 32*xi/auto so I assume I'd need an E90 ix for a donor?

No, they came in manual and rwd. Also, our E91 is 6mt and we got it from Canada so they weren't all autos - just rare.

If you're swapping it though it makes no difference.

Maybe LCI's are all auto/xdrive/328? There is no manual trans option as far as the website went(maybe different in the dealer?) but I only started pricing them out in 2012ish as well.

If I could find a manual E91 within ~400km, and for a halfway reasonable price, I'd probably buy it tonight.

Manual and/or MT e91s exist, but they are incredibly rare. Like just a few hundred of each. But they exist...

Checked further west and I found a few, but they're all twice the price of the only local one for sale(auto)

            Some day.

yeah, it was super hard to find. It just happens that my wife is from Canada and we're familiar with the process, and there happened to be one for sale in Vancouver.

if you're willing to get your hands dirty, buy an auto and swap it. The guys on bimmerpost will freak out that you might get dirt under your fingernails or rip the jeans you borrowed from your sister, but it's not really any harder than a manual swap into any other BMW. it's probably easier than doing it on an E30, the wiring in newer BMWs is much more modular, and coding it is just a matter of removing the automatic option from the VO.

yes, as mentioned they're around, oh boy another 335i thread! My fave.

Like nando said, a big majority of the e90 group are a bunch of sensitive rich middle aged people that would rather pay an additional $1200 in labor to replace shit we do in a day. Manual swap is as simple as any other swap.

Also very tempted by the E92..

unfortunately need an SUV to haul the boat, and another motorcycle, before I need another fun car.

By the time that gets sorted I'll probably just go with a 911 SC.

Had an '07 335i 6speed sport. Great car just so much more disconnected than the e30. Mine was FBO and running e85 mix. Stock turbos are notorious for wastegate rattle which is really embarrassing for a newer Bmw. I sold mine because after one track day I spent $300 in parts to replace power steering pulley and belt that tapped the subframe under braking. I knew I needed a cheaper and more reliable car to track with.
