Every winter I washed twice a week or more often when I drive on salty slush. (my apartment has washing bay that shoots warm water) It barely sat outside (indoor parking at my work & home).

One winter I had to park outside overnight and it developed a rust bubble on the rear valence and at the bottom of front fender.

I'd say drive it through the winter only when you can keep it inside, and ability to wash down the underbody very often.
Yup, my rust has gotten subsantially worse over the past 3 winters in Ottawa/Toronto, especially on the fenders and the rear quarter panel above the wheel. That last one is especially a bitch because it's not a quick pop-in-a-new-fender situation. Get that PPI and if it comes up as clean as it looks from the outside, keep it as a spring/summer/fall car!

That said, with good winter tires it's been pretty good in the snow! You may have some trouble in the hillier spots in montreal but wouldn't be worse than any other car i'd say

I live in ontario so our roads get just as salty. I don't DD my E30 but with my other cars i always get them Oil Spray (rust protection). it is worth the $100+ a year.
