In my old DSM running an open 3" DP and no bumper with a large FMIC, used to piss the neighbors off a lot. When it sat in the driveway waiting for some parts once, we used to get letters telling us to move it b/c it was an "eyesore." There was nothing better than coming home at 2 AM and cruising through the neighborhood at 4k rpm setting off car alarms.

I live in the ghetto so no complaints anymore, but in my mom's neighborhood I always get the signal to slow down because tons of kids live on the street (I go about 10mph in 3rd, the car is crawling).

And yes, it's illegal to accelerate quickly even if you are below the speed limit.

I usually drive safely through my neighboorhood and obey the speed limit, but it just so happened the one day I decide to haul ass around the corner and get sideways in my cul-de-sac was the the day my new neighboors moved in, so I come flyign around the corner, get sideways in the slightly damp weather, roll up into my driveway, toss my cigarette out of my left window (shared driveway, their side, woops).

The mom just sat ther and looked at me.. wooooops.

In kentucky, cities may not reduce the speed limit below 25 without permission form the State DOT. As a result, the normal residential speed limit is 25. It is too much of a hassle for cities to alter it, so they don't.

Many places that is fine, and where I livenow, in most of my subdivision, it is. But my old street, full of old houses with no sidewalks, curves in the road and a lot of blind spots due to trees, parked cars, etc. 25 was too fast for the conditions there.

Just because you are at or under the speed limit does not always mean you are driving an appropriate speed for the road conditions.

I dunno why you attract attention in your car Josh. Its a black boxy little car, not some Rice-a-roni Eclipse painted neon green. The fact is, they are your neighbors. Part of the deal of living in a "nice" neighborhood is often that you have to give a little if you want to get along. i imagine when your daughter gets a little older and is playing in that yard of yours, you will be noticing the speed of passing traffic much more than you do now.

Go move to the country if you want to get away from that. Otherwise, I think that is just a fact of life most places.

I had a neighborhood woman follow me into my driveway and give me a speech on speeding down the street.

I was doing the 30 MPH speed limit and I have a clean driving record. After explaining this, she failed to step off of her soapbox and I had to tell her to get the fuck off our property.

You can even get one for leaving a light or a stop sign to fast. Its called Jack Rabbit Start. I love how they make all these laws. Just about anything you do there is a law against it. Kind of sad in a Free America!
