Just get something else a little larger and still fun. It's not worth butting heads with your parents over an old car.

Enjoy being young, take trips with your friends, don't worry about car builds. There's plenty of time to build cool shit and turn wrenches, enjoy it.

        I realize this isn't helpful.

Life just gets harder and more complicated as you get older. Increased responsibilities..etc.

You might have to move out to get what you want,or have a sit down and be up front with how you feel about it without fighting. These cars are pretty safe,my dad had a 1991 325i w/driver airbag and got t-bone very very hard on the drivers door and right front / fender door area and is still with us with only minor injurys.

Just buy it anyways. These things aren't getting cheaper.

That's what I did and I'm awesome. Be like me.

This is how my group of friends all connected, we were constantly working on each others cars.

I agree with the theme of your post though- OP, enjoy being young with no responsibilities. Like most others have said, find something newer that your parents are comfortable with and enjoy it.

Just mention these 2 words to your parents. "Takata Airbags".

That's a good point, and one I neglected. Definitely more about time with the people you like and much less about what type or kind of vehicle it is.

When I was 17 I had to beg to use the family car. At 19 I got a hand-me-down 1962 Buick station wagon with no airbags, Pep Boys seatbelts, and a nice hard metal dash. Then I bought a death trap MG that started my lifelong love of Euro cars. Get what your folks are willing to get you, when you move out and go to college you can get what you want.

                            Persistence is key.
Buy your mom flowers, your dad a box of 12 gauge and stick a note into each gift saying you could be as happy as them if you where sitting in an e30.

Get an E34 or an E39 wagon. Bitches love wagons, and parents too.
