I had a tread about these, as I was looking to get one as a commutter. I never dd buy one, for no other reason than they are hard to find, and I am waiting to sell my honda.

I had one that was run into the ground but it was still a decent daily. Sold it, bought an E36 325i, promptly sold that and bought another 318ti. This ones an M Sport in Techno Violet, probably a keeper.

They're a fun little car. Drive just like a better, more comfortable E30. With a turbo, or M52 swap they would really be something else.

Thats why I love the Z3, it feels like a civilized e30. A M54 swap in a 318ti would be perfect for an all around car. Shouldn't be that hard either. Just get an engine, ECU, and cluster out of a Z3 and pop it in the ti.

I have a buddy that has S52 swapped a few 318tis, he has loved them! The interior really does look like a mix of E30 and E36.

Its okay, The build quality is better in an E30. On the TI AC is more up to date and the fold-down + the hatch is a nice combo.

I've had both long Term. I enjoy the E30 more, personally.

Congrats on the new purchase, I hope you like it. They can be great daily commuters. I had a 95 318 ti as my DD for about 4 years. I loved it, it was a blast to drive and other than a new cooling system I had absolutely zero issues with it. I bought it with 210k miles and sold it with 256k on the clock. It had a hard life before I got it and the body was beat up but I wish it had of been in better shape because I probably never would have sold it.

The D-bag I sold it to promptly blew the HG then listed it as a part out on 318ti.org and ripped off a bunch of members. That car deserved better, it makes me sad still to this day.

Great little cars. Practical and fun. In a lot of ways it's a Z3 with a practical chassis. Normal E36 engines bolt right up too! Plus you can share some parts with your E30. If you need anything a friend of mine has a few of these as parts cars. I can connect you gus

Some owners don't deserve the cars they get.

I like to think i improve the lives of the vehicles I own. Even after I'm done with it, I like to think some broke college chic will get useful life out of the work I did.

That actually happened once. I had an 84 Rabbit L when I was in Uni, and this REALLY CUTE chic bought it off me because I stepped up to my 86 325es. She was smitten with the color (Mars red) and the 5 speed stick (she really knew how to work those gears ;D).
Anyway, a few years late I was at the bar with some buddies and this awesome brunette comes up to me and was excitedly chatting me up. Turns out she remembered who I was and how awesome the condition it was was when I sold it to her (I totally could have picked her up at that point, but had a GF). She ran it pretty hard and it ended up with some kid after her who destroyed it in an accident.

I often think of that car and her....oh the memories :)
