Picture request: engine going into bay (m20 w/tranny)

I removed the old one from the bottom, easy as pie but installing from top.
I was going to attempt it tonight but i think i need to rethink my setup. Please show me how YOU do it.

I didnt really expect to actually install the engine and tranny this way but i'm missing the front lift loop so i hooked chains to engine support legs and one chain to the rear block loop. i need to get an engine balance for this to work but i need to know how you guys manage.

I hook to the loop in the front and the block in back on the d/s between the starter and the head. To get them both in from the top youll need to have it tilted a lot. Its much easier with 2 people as well haha. One to lower the lift and one to watch the tranny and the tunnel. When I did it I also had the radiator out, fan clutch off and the pwr steering pump off because it comes REAL close to the core support. When you hook it up just make sure its already tilted. When you put it in, have the mounts sitting in their spot on the subframe but not bolted in. This will give you some slack in getting the engine positioned just right. Once its sitting on those mounts put a jack under the tranny and jack it up so you can bolt that down then bolt down the engine to the engine mounts. Questions? :)

i have an extra lift hoop if you want it. It helps to have one of the leveling tools that goes on the engine hoise. They go in easy at about a 45 degree angle or higher.

        Heres the last 3 or 4 M20's that I've pulled :

As you can see it really helps to have a load-leveler on the hoist .
Although its helpfull at times it is not absolutely needed .
Without a leveler you can just hook the hoist right up to the loop/bracket in front of the head and pick the engine straight up at a sharp angle .

Oh and thats me with the white t-shirt ...NOT me with the ballcap . :D

Bingo. Angle is everything. I wouldn't just use the front thing though, it's kinda wonky.

You need a leveler, hook it to pretty much whatever you want, then pull the motor out at an extreme angle.

            here's mine:

the procedure I used was to jack the engine up as far as I could, increase the angle with the load leveler, jack it up some more, increase the angle more, pull the engine forward, jack it up a little more, increase the angle again, pull engine forward, etc. etc. unti I was able to clear the radiator support. I had the car on jackstands but lowered the front all the way to make clearing the radiator support easier.

the hoop thing on the front of the engine is designed for pulling the engine fyi.. and there is a loop on the back driver's side of the block too.

while teabagger didnt mention it, it should be noted they come out and go back in easier if you do it before piling it into a mini van

and Oregon "accomodated" lil bluntek for a long time. I had to deal with him in person, then again he was much nicer then too.. kinda funny how e thugs are nice in person.

so, i got it in tonight. here are a couple pics. i addressed the issue of the missing front lift point by fabing up a way to spread the load. over 33% of the weight was towards the exhaust so i did a couple extra holes (you can see the 'c' bar is bending a little.)

i guess i should mention that i didnt have head room with the garage door open so i had to drop it in from the side. i was surprised as to how easy it was. surprisingly having done it by myself.

as you can see, i had to pad things up with card board. i didnt want to risk really fucking things up.

                        she's ready for the bolt-ons.

i shaved everything out. anything electrical will be behind the firewall except the coilpack... and a couple important relays.
