All BMW tech's I need an opinion about Dealership pay for a starting tech?

Alright so I've graduated with my Associates in BMW technology and have been working at a Independent BMW repair shop for a year now and have found a dealership job and need to discuss pay with them.

I have a ball park pay in mind (12-15) and am wondering if thats reasonable pay for having the credentials I have.

Might sound stupid but I like to know the market value of a starting tech.

    thanks

Is that an actual $14 an hour, or a book hour? As in you'd get paid for an 8 hours for an 8 hour job even if it took you 5? I thought BMW mechs made a lot more than that...

        Flat rate = book time.
$14 seems close to me. More certifications you have, the more $ you could get.

I'm not sure if they will make you flat rate right away or not, that all depends on the dealership I think. I would say $15/flat rate hour would be decent especially if you could bust out some hours. TJ - $15/frh means that if the job pays 8 hrs and you get it done in 10 minutes, you just made $120 before taxes in 10 minutes. But the flip side of that is that if it takes you 3 days then you only made $120 in about 24hrs of work.

STEP techs out of columbia LTI averaged $20.15/hour last class. I've heard of some offered as high at 27 and as low as 15. Depends on location too.

Whats the average number of hours a tech can put in a week. I wouldnt think 15/hr would be that much to make a living on.

15/hr flat rate can be alright if you are fast. If you can flag 10hrs/ day and only work 8... you are in good shape. Then pay can only go up from there. You have to remember that 15/hr would be STARTING. Its not like you are gonna be makin 20/hr tops after years and years of working. My shop (only 1 tech, me, boss, office lady) was lookin to hire an experienced mercedes tech for $25/hour flat rate. Thats not bad when you flag more hours than you work each day.

To me, flat rate is a feast or famine deal. Either you rock the hours, or your sitting on your hands waiting for work. I'd rather be straight hourly and have a happy medium and a consistant paycheck.

And, PeaveyBassist, if I were closer, I'd be all over that position.

I charge $225/hour. But then again, I went to school ,and did not get my training starting as the towel boy at the Suds-n-Brite Car Wash.

Yeah, anything that takes real skill is going to make a lot more than some average car detailer. I get $50-100 an hour for my web site design and/or photography, but that isn't my main source of income.
