Paid membership didn't kill it, the lack of anyone being able to sign up did.

I believe the reason people were not able to sing up was because of the paid membership, not spammers.
After somebody paid they were able to post right away.

There is a ton of knowledge from that site that'll be lost if we can't find a way to archive it somewhere safe. Just this week, I have found several dead links off Google for articles on E30Tech that I could have used for a project I am working on.

Seriously, if someone could get a hold of the database, I'd happily donate the time to archive it.

yeah, no, some people literally waited in the time scale of years to be activated. I think at one point he was in the military, which is understandable, but what never made sense is he didn't share access with anyone else who could have maintained it when he was gone.

I have some stuff in there that is basically lost as well, unless it comes back.
