Leave the undercoating alone if it's in good shape.

Try a test area of undercoat on one of your other cars with Rustoleum satin or flat black.
It doesn't add any weight and puts a nice topcoat on your old undercoat.

As good as the udercaraige looks,I would leave it alone unless it is going to be a show car.

I'm going to leave the undercoating alone except for where the previous owner messed it up on some off the main rails. That's being redone with oem tan. Respraying paint on areas where the paint has worn off, but not undercoating. It will be red underneath just like factory.

            Original undercoating

Here are some photos of how e30 looked underneath when new,no complete paint coverage and blotchy .

It is unfortunate I can not upload multiple photos to one posting it removes my previous photo, very annoying.

Thanks! I've had good luck linking from a public google photos album or using an app like tapatalk

That looks like way too much work. If you value your time it's probably cheaper to reskin

Haha! We're way past that my friend-going on year 3 of the restoration. The work is part of the enjoyment for me. That's the difference between this and fixing a daily driver. No deadline.

I agree with your current plan of touching up the rails where the undercoating was marred with OEM tan. I think everything is in GREAT shape, but looks a little dusty, and if you wanted a show car, you could clean it so that it is absolutely immaculate if you wanted to.

I love your restoration! I'm glad to see you're taking your time, so you can savor it that much more when it's out on the road.
