...with the right techniques (such as using an impact driver on rotor set screws- I've never stripped a rotor set screw) you almost never need to use a sledge hammer working on your car.
Ah, but what man-made implement are you using to hit the back end of the impact driver? HAHAHA. HA. HA. :p
Oh, never mind, you use a 6 oz geologist's hammer to hit the impact driver. ;-) Or for really stubborn set screws, a 10oz ball peen hammer. OK, fine, you don't use a sledge to hit the impact driver, but you do need to hit it using a decent sized hammer.
Ya know it could be worse. There could be tales of hitting a ratchet with a BFH, or tales of putting a 4 ft cheater bar on a ratchet. THAT would be a travesty.

Ha, ha, ha! So true!!!
How about hiting the end of a 5 ft pipe used as a cheater on the end of the 1/2 drive ratchet with a BFH?
RIP ratchet! Long live lifetime warranty!!!
who doesnt use a hammer on a ratchet... thats what you do when you have a hammer and ratchet close at hand and the breaker bar's on the other side of the car

12oz and 20 oz work well for me, 4lber comes out in dire situations. I've used a 8' pipe on a breaker bar before, fucking sheared the 1/2" drive square right off the knuckle!! Then the heat came out. That's my new BFH.
