did he actually have radar on you? the ticket would have the box checked for radar.. my last ticket was BS, the cop had no radar on me and said I was going 85 (even though I was boxed in between two cars doing 60). I didn't think about asking to see the radar, and didn't realize he had none until I got the ticket home.

I would go to court and contest it. last time I went to court for a ticket, the judge dropped all but 2 of them. mine was dropped because the officer didn't file a report! it depends on the judges in the area where you got the ticket, but up here in bellingham they usually side with the defendent.

that's the stupidest attitude in the world. there is a very good chance he can get the ticket dropped, why wouldn't you take it? if you contest it and he says guilty, you pay the ticket and get the insurance hit. if he drops it though, you're off scott free. you have to be retarded not to realize that. it's a matter of odds after all..

In response to 914driver and nando, I dont think it was a visual ticket as the officer marked radar or whatever on the ticket and told me it was via radar. But he may have well visualized me speeding and lied about the speed. Or maby my radar didnt go off, whatever.

Im sure I deserve the ticket in one way or another, if I wasnt speeding there I was speeding somewhere else. I was in a daze from the 102 degree heat and long boring roads so I cant honestly tell anyone how fast I was going.

blunt- I have no objection to paying the ticket if I have to. But my insurance is allready high from being a young driver and driving a red sports car. This is my first speeding ticket btw. Im not going to give up so easy however. I will fight it and prolly just higher a lawyer to represent me. Hell it will be cheeper than the ticket.

Thanks for the input guys, Its good to hear your experiences.

I don't think that matters here (AZ), they can say they paced you or used their mighty traffic cop ability to judge your speed via relating it to something else. And I don't think asking to see the radar gun makes a difference here anymore either, they don't have to keep it on their gun just in case if you ask. At one time it worked.

Thankfully it's been more than 2 years since my first and only ticket, yay traffic school in worst case scenario... but that seriously sucked on a Saturday.

stfu, it all comes down to stupid motherfuckers refusing to take responsibility for their actions. he was doing 90 fucking miles an hour. i think he deserves what he got. hes guilty, he got caught , end of story. if he was doing the speed limit and was falsely accused then by all means fight the ticket. maybe he should sue the cop for mental anguish also. That's a bunch of BS. Because of the attitude like this cops are allowed to do this kind of stuff and local governments an all levels are doing this shit. Remember Rome, Ohio story? Look it up if not.

Also because of attitude like this the whole system of ticket fines stands the way it is. I'm not even going to get into the whole thing about the speed limits being much lower than engineering studies suggest.

Go here: http://motorists.org get a packed for your state with digest of laws and go fight that shit.

Blunt, pPlease don't say stuff like that ever again.

I betcha on that ticket that cop made some mistakes as well with a case like that. He saw you SPEEDING from a mile away? I doubt he even SAW you that far. Freaking radars and lasers can't tell how fast a car is going from more than 2000 fee away.

Grow up guys. This has nothing to do with being RESPONSIBLE for your actions. Actually I believe if you "just pay it" that would be unresponsible.

Also think about the insurance impact that will have for the next several years plus any possible tickets you may have in the future will be written with the mentality of "well, he's a habitual speeder".

I suggest you rethink your position. The current position of the legal system in this country is "not guilty until proven otherwise".

Were you there Blunt? Was he REALLY speeding?

Perhaps you should become a bit more responsible and educate yourself on the issue. Go to that website I referenced.

isn't there something about V1 paying tickets like this for you if the detector doesn't work?

hmm, my escort 8500x50 has pop support but I have it off, thought I read when I got it that POP wasn't being used in courts, and was of shaky reliability.

I have a V1 but its pretty hidden. Same thing pretty much happened to me the other day. Cop saw me accelerating in the right lane past a guy in front of me. I got next to the guy saw the cop and let off, never passing the other motorist. Valentine never lit up. Was in a 50/55 zone, he pulled me over and asked if i knew how fast I was goin, I said not exactly, then he told me I was going 67. I told him, in shock "There is no way I was going 67." He took all my info and ran it, came back and cut me loose.

I beleive its just a bait and ticket strategy. If they get you to say you were speeding by stating a value way over, your in for it. So if you have radar or laser detection and it doesn't go off, well for that matter anytime you get pulled over, DO NOT ADMIT YOU WERE SPEEDING! If you do, you pretty much throw away any chance of fighting it etc since almost all officers record convos now.

The only reason I beleive I didnt get a ticket was that the state police officer could tell i was in utter disbeleif of how fast he said I was going and that I probably would fight it. And since I beleive he had no reading of my speed, if I fought it, he holds no ground. Whereas if I make him think I am just gonna take the hit and pay it, he wouldnt hesitate to right me up for a ticket. /rant

90mph is pretty easy when the speed limit is 70 and traffic is moving at 80+. I got passed by an old lady this weekend like I was standing still and I was doing 81. nobody said he was doing 90 in a school zone.

as far as fighting the ticket, it doesn't matter if he has radar on you or not - it's still worth the effort. you may get lucky and he'll forget to file the report, or maybe the judge will buy your story. if you are in traffic maybe he tagged the wrong car, just because he has radar doesn't mean you are guilty or that the judge won't throw out the ticket. if you lose, then you pay the ticket anyway and are no worse off.

To me not fighting any ticket is dumb. My point was that you will pay 99 times out of 100 if the cop pulled your speed and shows up. If both arent in play, you pretty much are going to get out of it so long as you DO NOT ADMIT AT ANY TIME, INCLUDING WHILE PULLED OVER, THAT YOU WERE GOING OVER THE LIMIT. If you do admit it, even with the cop just guessing your speed, your gonna be paying a fine in the courts, I've seen it happen time and time again.

V1 has saved my ass more than I can count now. If a cop pulled me over and my V1 never went off, I would deny speeding and ask to see his proof.

Even if he uses laser I will know. V1 FTW!

Why? If I can get out of it, why bend over? If I can't, then I will. Seriously, what's wrong with getting out of something you really did.

I'll be honest, I did ym ebst to not drop below 100 mph my whole way back to school. Yea, I know I'm breaking the law. But, you tell me to move 65 driving across the middle of bum-fuck Wyoming. LOL

In all honesty, I do my absolute best to avoid all speeding tickets. One reaosn I have a $400 radar detector in ym windsheild. BUt, if I ever get caught, and I do me CAUGHT - radar yadda yadda - I will pay the penalty. Until then, I'll do my best to snake my way out of anything.

Sure made a 920 mile drive not take as long. heh

                                Just my $.02 :D
