    The value of brakes

Have a look at this. An E30 owner at a track day event has a very scary moment which totaled his ride. At least the occupants are ok.

Every old car owner’s worst nightmare is a mechanical failure, a crash out of your control. Greg built his 1991 BMW E30, a 318is with an S52 engine swap, into his absolute pride and joy, and he’s lucky he lived after his brakes gave out on track at 110 mph.

Yeah, the owner posted this a bit ago.

        The video is incredibly intense.

The car was insanely clean and well kept. Hard to think that the brake system was overlooked to a degree that caused failure on the track.

I figured it wasn't corroded old rubber brake lines.

Any indication on what caused the issue?

You clearly covered all the essential brake wear items - so it wasn't like you had worn parts suddenly failing.

In your post about the day of the event, you mentioned you applied the brakes entering T8 but all pedal pressure was gone. Does this mean the brake pedal went straight to the floor without any resistance on your foot? Perhaps the master cylinder failed? Or a line worked itself lose somehow? Maybe an issue with one/both of the UUC calipers?

                  I'm just brainstorming here.

Bottom line: you and your instructor walked away which is a relief to hear. The car can be replaced.....occupants, not so much.

Damn... you guys were lucky. All things considered, the car held up pretty well for doing just north of 175 KM/H.
