    question for the experts...

sorry i have no idea what part of the forum this goes in!

I have an 87 325is with 246,000kms, and for some time i've been looking for a "younger" version of my car...not seriously but in case a nicer one came up.

so what if i've found one that is in really, really nice shape...original paint/interior all in awesome condition, tons of work done to maintain the car...just a really nicely kept e30...is $11,900 ridiculous?

    here is the ad:

1989 BMW 325IS, 5 spd, 115,000 kms, pw, pm, power antennea, central locking cruise, a/c, trip computer, ABS, pwr sunroof, heated navy Recaros, eclipse, CD & sub, new Michelin Piolets, new exhaust, Eibach springs, Dinan chips, 5,000 kms since Korman auto works, cylinder head rebuild, very exceptional original paint & interior, very exceptional car, 35 K invested, Sacrifice $11,900.

what do you guys think? keep in mind we are in a bit of an elevated market here where i live...a decent e30 goes for $6k, a rusty beater for $3k. Silly but true.

also if by some strange coincidence this car belongs to someone on r3v, please don't be upset with me posting the ad, i love the car!

Seems maybe a little too high where you live. I would think 9k or 10k.

So if I could talk him down to under 10k, is that reasonable? I am just in love with the car and I am trying not to be impulsive about it.

if you really love your car you would never do that to it! I would look at it seriously if it weren't for the turbo...i would kill myself with that turbo. i am a little throttle-heavy, i don't need my car to be much faster than what i have now, i already have lost my license once (or twice) for speeding tickets and "fancy driving".

I would check it out at least, 115,000km is pretty low. definitely try to talk him down. It sounds like it has had a lot of recent work though which could be worth the asking price.

I think you might be able to find a cheaper one in your area for a lower price though, I see mint E30s from BC around here all the time. wish people around here were as nice to their E30s as you canadians..

I dunno how much 12k is in USD, but it still sounds like too much for a non-m e30

at current exchange rate thats $10,710 US. is this a private owner selling it? i see e30's here all the time at used car dealerships for over 8k $CAN. although 115,000km's is really low that would have to be one exceptionally well kept car to be asking that much. ill bet you could talk him/her down to like 6 or 7k though, i mean i doubt people are flocking in to offer 12k for a nearly 20 year old car. i mean sure maybe they put craploads of tlc and new parts into it etc. (35k seems like alot though) but still theyd be lucky to get near what theyre asking for it.
this is a coast car right? no rust?

i say make a lowball offer an judge the reaction.

It is a local car so definitely no rust since we hardly have to salt the roads...i doubt it has been winter driven, at least by its current owner...yes it is a private owner and he sounds like a real fanatic, which is why i'm loathe to make him a lowball offer...don't want to offend the guy. I very seriously doubt I could get him as low as 6 or 7k, that's average for a decent-quality e30 out here.

I agree that people are probably not making a ton of offers on the car, it is old and you have to be an e30 person to even consider spending that amount of money on a 20 year old car no matter how clean it is. So I am thinking about it still.

I say don't buy it. You can find a very nice e30 for much less in other places. Shipping a car isn't too expensive. I had my m3 shipped from TX to CA for under a grand.

I would want to see the car and drive it before i bought it though, for sure...so flights and stuff would get expensive. I just can't help thinking what if I never find another one this nice?? it's like new, lowest KMs i've heard of on one that age, and it's the colour i have in my head and everything, not that that is really what's important!

I will keep thinking and maybe if the price starts dropping I will have a chat with the guy.

Thanks everybody for your input :D
