Pitch black oil

mine was black last time I changed it at 3k.. my SI lights were almost all green too. maybe it's just cheap ass oil?

15W50 Mobil 1, every 3.5k, comes out looking like honey. :) Got to love a clean engine.

LubroMoly Molybdenum Disulfide synth-blend oil, 10W-40 goes in brown because of the moly...comes out slightly darker...

I'm using 15w-50 Mobil 1 in the 87n 325, and I checked it today. It's brown, but not black. Has close to 3,000 miles on it I think.

15w50? Damn, that's thick. I use 5w30 in the winter.

5w-30 was WAY too light. I tried it. 15w-50 is perfect.

Take a look at Mobil 1's website, they list 5w-30 as working best at like -40 to 30 F in the E30's. Whereas the 15w-50 works at -5 up to around 90 I think.

It quieted down a bit too.

bmwguru suggested I run 15w-50, and I'll be stickin with it. ;)

CASTROL GTX 10-40 all year round, and i change it every 2K

I run 5w30 in the winter months and I switch to 10-40 in the summer. 15w50 is great if you have a high performace engine and you're pushing it a lot, but it kills your gas milage for daily driving.

Hey guys ..Check what the BMW dealer recommends for us...where ever we are....

Up here in the cold CANADA climate they use 15w40 in the winter and 20w50 in the summer ....

So i use the same ..actually i only use 20w50 cause i don't drive them in the winter...
