    E46 M3 Touring

    I like it.

The E46 BMW M3 came in with the new millennium and is already something of a contemporary classic. Perfectly shaped between round and square, joyous to drive before getting dangerous... these are just Damn Good Cars. BMW never sold a station wagon version, so somebody made their own. And it drives as well as it looks.

Me too but it's bee done a few times. Rogue did one way back when and it was spot on. Klaus Schnitzer used it for a photo car and I was lucky enough to drive for him.

I only ever knew about this one:

It's not quite as M3'd up as the one in the OP

It was featured back in maybe 2006 maybe 07 in Roundel, the car Aleman showed looks about right. Todd from TCD car was being photo'd and Klaus needed a driver and I had gone with Todd.

Believe it had M front fenders.

It was actually at Bimmerfest this year, looked to be pretty nicely built. I always toyed with the idea of a engine swapped e46 touring, but for now I feel fortunate enough to have found a factroy 5 speed touring. Looking into it, so much programming and wiring has to go into a s54 swap/build, and then there's CA smog breathing down your neck.

More recently I've consider a M54B30 swap, the wiring harness's are the same between the two engines and there's a solid 40hp difference between the two. Could be a cool build if a local cheap touring came up for sale with lets say, a blown head gasket (aka cracked cylinder head). The dream was to import a e30 touring but for now this settles the "wagon craving".

                Few pics of mine;

                  It's the b30's torque that I love-
it comes on earlier, and keeps building.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

I may be the odd one out, but I wouldn't want an s54 in a touring. I'm more into a nice torquey motor instead.

Can't say I blame you as soon as you add items into the car you'd be taxing the engine so having something with grunt would be nice but falling on it's face at 5K rpm is not needed as well.

I saw this car on the 101 freeway about a year ago. The license plate stuck out with the S54 verbiage. It was cruising closer to the Valley around the woodland hills area in heavy traffic.

Not into touring but very nice looking in person.

My fav e36 m3 swap here in norcal is an e36 m3 with an s54 using a z3M wiring harness for all smog business. Thing is 100% legal. badass imho.

How does an S54 have no torque compared to an M54? An S54 makes more torque at 2000rpm than an M54 does at peak.

Peak is at 3,500 vs 5,000 RPM but I get what you're saying
