No, you're thinking of the 80's vintage cars. The Graduate was simply the name of a trim level (entry level) for the Spider in 1985. The other trim levels were the Veloce (mid-level) and Quadrifoglio (luxury model) for that year. All three versions had the same mechanicals, just different options such as alloy vs steel wheels, leather vs vinyl seats, etc. These cars are easily recognized by a hideous black plastic spoiler attached to their tails.

Mine was a 1979 Spider Veloce, which I bought used in 1985 for $5000.

Can you believe how short the shorts were back then? I look at them now and can't believe I used to wear them that short-now I have to have them touching my knees or I won't wear them out of the house.

I got my license in December of '85, and in March of '86 my parents gave me a '86 GMC S15 truck. However, my older sister bought her first, and only, BMW-a new '86 325. Four door, burgandrot, tan cloth interior, automatic. It was not ordered with cruise control, so she had the dealer install it. I drove it a number of times, so I can remember how they drove new. Let's just say, after close to 20 years you can tell our chassis are aging.

Started saving for a car when I was ~12, then began working at 15. Bought it sight unseen the next year and flew to San Francisco with my Dad to pick it up and drive it back to New Orleans. It was a long trip, but driving it down the PCH from SF to LA the day I got is something I'll never forget. I still have it and can't ever see selling it.
