what happens to our E30's if we run out of oil?

I really don't want this to happen, but looking at the next few decades and oil supply flow peaking anywhere between 2005 and 2025, if there comes a point at which we can't use gas anymore, and ethanol doesn't pull through (I am not going to explain why at the moment...that would take a long time)...what happens to our E30's? This is a real issue...I am not making it up...

      1) Were never going to completely run out of oil, its just going to get rediculously expensive as it gets harder and harder to obtain.

      2) Its not going to happen most likely in this lifetime. That being said, I highly doubt even 95% of us are going to be driving e30's ten years from now, let alone when oil becomes a real serious issue.

Yes, I know what you mean...it's all relative...in the next while though there will come a point within our lifetimes when oil is no longer feasible to obtain for driving around even if it's when we are all 70-90 years old and a bunch of gray-haired enthusiasts...what happens? This is the last generation of cars that any common fool can work on...with all the additional systems in cars of today there will not be enthusiasts who can simply teardown and rebuild their cars in their garages with a common toolbox...

too bad petroleum (which you meant to say, not oil) is needed for a LOT more than just making gasoline. what about lubricants? what about all of the plastics... some stuff can be synthesized from other compounds, but when it becomes cheaper to make an aluminum knob for your climate control than replace it w/ a plastic one, that's gonna be a mess.
Sold my Sepang Bronze 1990 325is and miss it already

Well, I guess they'll just have to start making everything out of carbon fiber.

If I had the cash, I would have the motor from a 324td shipped over here, and convert by car to run biodiesel. We have a co-op here in town that makes it, it's a little over $3 per gallon. My friend Seth has a MkII Golf that runs on Biodiesel, and he gets 60-70 MPG, and his car is quick!

by the time we "run out" of oil and gas costs $100 a gallon, you probably won't be daily driving your E30 anyway - if you even still own it, it will be garaged and you'll take out it for car shows and nice weekends.

The M3's will be for parades and shows only within the next 10 years... Not concerned about oil...
Glad I live in bicycle commute capital USA, lol

too bad E85 at best means a 1:1 energy in to energy out ratio in terms of production, too bad corn is the most energy intensive crop, too bad switchgrass and wheat grass contain dangerous levels of chlorine, too bad the above crops along with others require natural gas from Saudi Arabia for both energy and fertilizer purposes and finally too bad E85 plants need miniature coal-powered plants to operate...ok I've ranted enough...

Sigh... I wonder when someone is going to come out with a torque monster electric motor. Conversion.
