Hey man, the E30 will not disappoint. I've had mine for three months or so and I still feel this is the best car I've owned to date (considering the amount of fun I have driving it, purchase price, cost of repairs, consumables, etc).

I'm a fan of original paint, even if it's a little faded - after driving the car for a while you may find your money is better spent on suspension / drivetrain repairs and upgrades vs. cosmetic stuff.

          welcome......

I'd recommend a 318is, light, reliable, no ancient ignition technology... a little lacking on power but a real fun track/ sprited driving vehicle. Lets see ummm reliable, reliable, reliable....

          the plane takes off FYI

Welcome, e30s are nice little cars for sure and pretty damn easy to work on, parts aren't hard to find at all and don't cost as much as for the newer cars. Just don't do what I did, don't go for the one w/out any service records ....you'll end up turning it into a full blown restoration project spending thousands on it

Well I can find some of the 1989 325is' around the area just with a lot of miles. Ill take your advice and research on some of these engine swaps.

And with the paint, yeah... that will be secondary to performance.

Really excited in owning a e30. If you guys, in SD, or know anything about SD i live in Mira Mesa. The home to the rice rockets and i like to say change is needed.

Thanks for all your input, i will search and hopefully show pics of my new upcoming ride in the next couple of weeks or months. thanks :)

You'll easily Blow $1500 to $3000 for a decent paint job. Find one with good paint and spend your money on a s52 swap or performance. If your gonna fix anything find one that needs repairs where you could swap in performance parts instead...engine, suspension, breaks... It's the only way you'll ever let the ricers know your the new meat.
