WHY? Don't be such a cheap-ass, and DON'T fuck around when it comes to your engine management software.

I dont really know how it is in the states, but here in germany, in my M3 I brought my car to a tuner and they mapped a chip specifically to my car. It depends what has been done to your car as to how the chip will actually perform. I also bought a e-bay chip ( a "alpina2.7")copy, for my daily driver stroker motor, and personally besides the 6900 rpm rev limiter and higher idle I do not feel a difference. so what I am saying is get a chip that is well known or if possible get a chip tuned to your motor, cause not all M20s are the same, and you might have different mods than what that chip was designed to deal with.**and stay away from e-bay junk**

Cool. Get yourself a cheap ECU chip, get it mapped with Jim C software (which isn't going to happen, just so you know), and be sure to have a cell phone and your AAA card when your engine goes tits up on you.

Most of the 16 year olds I know with nice cars have a way to get money for their cars. They GET A JOB.

you dont have a job, and you're going to take out a 5g loan for an E30?

If you can even get a loan, which without a job won't happen, even with one you have 0 credit (I ran into this problem a couple months ago).

Think it through. Loan does not equal free money.

Well, I never really planned on getting a knock off JC chip. I just wanted to know if they were available and If they performed up to the same standards as the original JC. I do have a means of making money, It's just not a steady means. I make maybe 100 bucks here and there fixing computers when ever im asked. Its a good way to make some easy gas money.

Haha when was I talking about gettin a loan? I'd never want to be entitled to having to pay back a loan. I just save up the cold hard cash. I actually made 2500 bucks today.I bought insainly clean 87 325is with 97k orginal miles with perfect paint and leather for 2500 and ended up selling it for 5000 this week. :) Now all that cash is going into suspension, wheels, and what ever performance parts I can get for my 89 325i. Im just trying to make this money last as long as I can.

I'm the one taking out the $5k loan for an e30!
I've thought about it a fucking lot and will be able to pay it off easily, as I'm just starting a new job...sall good! I just need a freaking car--18 years old and counting and still bumming rides off of my friends (a couple of them drive e30's but that won't sustain my craving!!!)

Well, I really fucked that one up.

Krazy- Keep your job, pay for mods as you go. Make a timeline for yourself. You'll be amazed at what you can get done in a couple years.

gusT- you've got a good job, rock on, but good luck with the loan. My statements above still apply.

                    Cheers

You'd better be DAMN sure of that. You could very easily get fired or something could happen, and you will be fucked. Taking out a loan while at the same time starting a new job is not a smart idea, ask any financial planner.

That's how I thought when I took out my student loan to buy my first E30. I'm still paying it off, becuase situations and circumstances can and DO change. Just be careful.

The parents originally said that they would put in some $ towards my car but I'm doing it all for now, so they will help bail me out incase I have a problem in the future, but I'm also taking out more $ than I need even though I will just have to pay more back with interest and all, but I am keeping it somewhere so that if I can't pay a monthly due, then I will have an account to take out from. Thanks guys.

i got a jim c chip for my car and i enjoy it very much. something ive learned is to buy quality parts because in the end you will have less problems.

just some info on the chip, that 15hp 15tq gain is not a peak gain. it is a gain somewhere throughout the powerband. before i had my chip i felt a huge tq peak at about 4-4500 and didnt feel much "pull" after that. now with the chip, it pulls strong from 4-6900. its a great upgrade.

i wouldnt reccomend other chips because ive herd that they only work at full throttle, and u dont want that do u ;)

also, find your ecu # and start looking for a used one. i got mine Jim C (Turner Motorsport) Chip for $125 used and im very pleased with my decision.

I was under that impression that peak gain = max gain attained anywhere in the powerband

Now I see it makes sense peak gain occurs at the peak of the power curve
