Thing is, you guys dont have an oil temp gauge, its water temp, and your water gets to operating temp WAY before your oil. And Ive been trying to blow up the etas engine for years, give up. :)

20/50 takes some lovin' on 9degree mornin's. That's why she's runnin' 5/30 now. Cold starts were never easier.

Every day I wake up we drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN
Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in.
        Lobsterbacks attack the town again

Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me.

and he's not revving it, he's driving. there is a load on the engine, there is no harm in what he/she is doing.
my temp gauge stays there for most of the drive to/from work.
and 3400 RPM is not high at all

Funny thing, where did you get that? On the newer M cars with the variable rev limiter I think the lowest they go is 4500. Revving the motor to 4k when the car is cold isn't going to hurt it unless your rod bearings are absent, in which case you'll be sending a rod through the side of your block soon anyway.

It's actually been proven that letting an engine idle when cold does more harm then driving it. Obviously you don't want to redline it when cold, but on an engine that redlines at over 6K, 3500 is nothing.

New e46's have lights on the tach that turn on to lower your redline when the engine is cold. They go off as the engine warms up. Anyone know what I"m talking about? What do they have the redline at when cold with those?

Edit: Didn't see your post Willis. That was what I'm talking about. You can see it in this vid:

              5000 RPM when cold.

I think if anything why is he taking pictures of the tach while going 70mph?

The tach isnt that big of a deal and most temp. gauges dont work either way.

If you dont like it....dont buy it ;)

E46's also run 0 or 5 weight synthetic oil, versus 20w dino that most E30 guys run, and that will help a lot with being able to rev the motor when its coldish.
