I don’t understand why people think F1 is boring. true some of the tracks are hard to pass on and the teams such as Ferrari dominated seem to be lead almost every lap . but the teams such as Toyota or Renault are extremely fun to watch. its the pinnacle of road racing. without F1 the tech wouldn’t trickle down into the bmws and Mercedes we drive . but if you want mindless racing that doesn’t require much thought watch NASCAR. people wonder why American tuning sucks is because NASCAR . If NASCAR wasn’t such an technically stunted program (no fuel injection they use carbs ) maybe American cars would have something to offer

1. You can see the entire NASCAR race from anywhere in the stadium. Even at the Indy F1 GP you miss part of the race from any given place.
2. It does take skill to drive 6 inches from other drivers doing 200MPH for 2 hours.
3. Properly tuned carburators (from what I've been told) will generate more power up high than any FI system.
4. People in the US can't go to more than 2 F1 races.
5. There are no American F1 drivers.
6. COST for tickets (and cost to run a NASCAR team is way less than F1)
With that said...the finess and extremeness of F1 is what does it for me. NOTHING can compare to the sound of a V10 doing 18000rpms. Threading your car between others and NOT bumping is way more enjoyable than the NASCAR "hammer" style.

I understand that crab can make power not debating that. but when was the last time a crab has come out in 04 American car. there isn’t much room to grow in the American auto industry. I never said it don’t require skill to drive in NASCAR, the speeds they maintain in the proximity they do it in does require skill. but its more of a spectator sport meant to keep the cars close proximity in order to cause accidents . and that makes it very unsafe. just my .02 centsComment

They aren't on NEW American cars for several reasons. First off, the tuning of a carburator will cost FAR more than just plugging in a FI unit and doing some programming. Carb tuning must ALL be done per car by hand. I'll totally agree with the fact that NASCAR is a spectators sport, though. It's for the people, at times, more than the drivers. But the fact that NASCAR does keep road courses around (as well as different ovals) does show they are at least trying to mix things up, even just a little.

The race did seems a little boring at times. Notice how much attention the cameramen were paying to Schuey? He was long gone with nothing but clean track (until he started lapping his opponents). However, there were a few exciting moments. Watching Ralfy get punted and spun was something...amazing how the car suffered no damage. Then Kimi's Mercedes turning into a spectactular fireball was insane. I've never seen an F1 motor let go quite like his did. Wonder what the deal is? Guess he's just too demanding on the engine.....he has yet finish a race this year due to engine failure after engine failure.
Probably the best footage was watching Alonso making his way up the pack since he started so far back on the grid. He worked hard all day and had a good car too. Button and the BAR Honda look like they're going to be the team to watch. Two podium finishes in a row for the young English lad and he too had a very good car.
Imola - San Marino in 3 weeks. A great and fast track. Not quite as taxing on the brakes as Bahrain.

NASCAR should go to world tourning specs and get with the program. Yes they have a big fan base. People are affraid of change so NASCAR is basically the same for the last 25 years. You could seriously put a 1977 montecarlo body on a newer chassis and go racing vitage style. They have nothing to do with current car lines other than visual recognition. I mean when did a dodge intrepid have carberator or tube frame. NASCAR needs a facelift and they don't even know it.

No low end torque? Then how do the do those wonderful burnouts on slicks? Carbs and emissons don't go well together you are correct there but neither do the exotic fuels that Cart PPG and F1 cars burn.Originally posted by PrinceE30

I like to watch some Nascar when they goto the road corse twice a year, notice the field suddenly changes names with the exception of Jeff Gordon who might be crossing into F1.
Nascar has become a Spec racer event all of it has been regulated to death and mundane, but cheating still happens and makes for some excitement. Heck Toyota had to devolop a Carb'd 355 small block just for the Truck series and will be entering into Nascar in 2006 with the Solara.Comment

Jon, I think you saw the same exact race I did. I was a little surprised on how much passing DID take place at this new track. As for Kimi's "moment", usually you see a few flames for a couple of seconds, not a 20ft stream of flames for that long of a period of time. Although the Ferrari's were boring to watch after the first turn, the rest of the pack was quite exciting. Webber might get his ass kicked one of these days unless he starts paying attention to his driving rather than blocking. Alonso was fun to watch and; WTF, Button's BAR on the podium, again? Ralf better get his act together or he'll be the test driver for Minardi next year.
