A bit off topic, but still related to the turbo system cooling....

How is cooling addressed for the turbo? Circulated oil? Water cooled? Just curious.

What is the difference in HP between one with and without intercooler?

        Advantages in comparison?

We are using non-water cooled turbos. We looked into the advantages/disadvantages and spoke to several rebuilders. They reported see little to no difference in the longevity of the turbos with water cooling. I personally put 245K miles on a Saab turbo without water cooling with no problems. Water cooling adds a bit of complication to the installation also. If someone insisted on water cooling it could be specified in the order but the buyer will need to supply the plumbing, etc. to accomidate it.

At the same boost levels there will be an increase in power with an intercooled system due to the higher density air charge (which will also need more fuel). We can't quantify the difference until we have dyno numbers. We are making a point of giving only hard numbers as tested. These numbers will be SAE wheel Hp and not SAE BHp.... unless someday we run an engine on a dyno and not the whole car ;o)
That being said, we will soon have the E30 on intercooled air and get some hard data.
