    Broke My Timing Belt :curse:

i let my eta warm up like always, when i put it into second gear, the engine shuts down and i hear chattering noises. i wasnt going fast at all revs were maybe 1000-1500. i started working on it took off the timing belt casing and everything else in the front of the engine. could it be possible that nothing in the head is broken?
    Thanks, Victor

I'd say it's possible that no major harm was done. Personally I would pull the head to be sure.

its possible but you said yourself you heard chattering noises. i would do a quick timing belt swap and see if she runs before pulling the head. just me though.

I would just swap in a full i motor... they really arent expensive at all...

pulling the head isn't too difficult. you've already drained the cooling system, the next hardest part would be unbolting the exhaust manifold and pulling the head(leave the intake manifold on, much easier)

I would pull the head. The motor is an interference motor, which means 99.9999% you've damaged something. it may not be too severe, and it may work itself out, but if you want the car to run normally you'll need to fix whats broke.

How many miles are on your car? If you are going to rebuild your head(new seals, valve guides, valves etc) then you might want to think about freshening up your bottom end. I recently just put a fully rebuilt head(new cam, rockers, everything) and a few weeks later sucked out my rings. The car when cold smokes worse than an old Honda. But if its just a DD beater, slap some used valves in there and call it good.

Crack open the valve cover, it should be pretty easy to tell if you broke anything.

And warming up the engine doesn't have anything to do with a timing belt breaking.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

thanks for the info guys, i pulled the valve cover and nothing seems broken,
while im in there im changing the thermostat, waterpump, all the other belts and distributor cap & rotor. im just going to throw everything back on and hope for the best,

but my problem is figuring out how to get the crankshaft / camshaft/ distributor all lined up

does anyone know how to get everthing in their right place?

                              thanks
