Anti-cruising law introduced in Bingmaton, NY.

What do you guys think of this? It's such bullshit and a violation of our fundamental rights. I can't drive around?

I know it's to crack down on prostitution and drugs and crime, but for the people that just have a nice E30 and want to drive it in a small town, what's the problem with that?

They did that in Portland about 5 years ago. Too many wrecks, fights, etc.

I can see what thet are getting at. Wanting to stop the drugs and the Johns picking up hookers. But it will also cut into people who have nice cars and like to go out and ride around in them on a nice day or night. wheather it be a street rod, muscle car or import. I like to go out and ride around in my GN with the t-tops off and enjoy the day/night. I don't see that happing around here cause of all the car guys around. it is now the thing to do here when there is a car show/cruise, to burn your tires when you leave the parking lot or when you pass by the show. Cops let it go for awhile before they step in and tell everyone to leave usally around 9:00-10:00pm.

Classic example of a few bad apples ruining the whole bushel.

It sucks, but what can you do?

I think that they have this law in some parts of Cali as well. I think that it is bullshit.

We have anti-cruising laws in some areas of Denver and the surrounding suburbs... They will ticket you if they see you in a "zone" more than once in an hour.

I can see the reasoning though. Point is too, why would you want to cruise around in a shitty area? I know when I go for a drive, its through nice areas, not prostitute and drug areas. I can see it working, but thats if you have cops who are diligent enough to realize the type of traffic to watch for, as well as behavior.

What if you are going to a friends house to pick them up, then going to the grocery store, and then going back to the friends house.

                    eh? EH!?

                      That's BS.

I wonder what they do about legit circumstances. And "the road to hell is paved with good intentions..." like this one. They push it in the name of terrorism, fighting crime/etc B.S.

You get a ticket for cruisin'? FIGHT it.

they did it here about 15+ years ago. first they stopped cruzing at metro center (big mall with an outer loop around the whole thing) too much trash, under age drinking, and vandalism problems. then they closed down cruzing on central ave in phx. same reasons, plus stereo noise complaints from the neighborhood. in addition to that (and anybody that was around then will vouch for it) the mexican kids were starting to do drive bys and shoot at other cars. the police put a stop to that. sad too, since cruzing central had been around since the 50's. ask any older chicano/lowerider 30ish and up, and he will tell you that a few groups of stupid assholes ruined a whole scene. lastly they stopped cruzing on mill ave, in true tempe fashion (by making $$ at it), they post a woman in the median who records your plate # as you go by. three passes by her in 1 hour is concidered cruzing the fine ranges from $100-$300, and it gives them and excuse to look over your car for other violations like: too low, in op lights, etc

Town outside of seattle I'm from, Kent, has it as well because of all the streetracing going on in the industrial areas.

Cruising is as much of a nuisance as loitering. Its very annoying when I gotta go downtown to take care of some business and I can't get to where I need to go in a timely manner because guys in a cars are blocking traffic as they yell cat calls to women walking down the sidewalk.

Even though the anti-cruising laws seem to be violating everyone's rights, it has been my experience that the law gives the cops the permission to stop and ticket you if you are being a pest but I doubt that they are actually counting the number of times that they see your car. With all of the cars that go through a typical "no-cruising" zone, if the cops recognize your car, chances are that you have been through there more than a few times. If they see you and recognize you more than 3 times in an hour, you probably have gone through there about 100 times.

And on the flip side of that I am sure that there have been cases of mistaken identity where someone in a white honda goes through 5 times and then the cops decide that they are going to nail his ass to the wall on #6. Then here you come in YOUR white honda.. exact make, model, year, and trim.. and you were out there so that you could pick up your grandma from her bingo game. But the cops don't want to hear it.
