I have always wanted a 3 series with a BMW V8. Looks like I finally have my wish. I just hope the curb weight isn't more then 3,300 pounds. I'm not holding my breath though.
I also wish the torque numbers would be higher. Sure the curve looks nice and flat, but 290TQ from a V8? Come on! The E46 M3 has 260TQ from a 3.2 I6.
I'll refrain from judgment until I drive one though. Something tells me a rev happy BMW V8 may make me stop dreaming of a Ferrari 360.2004 SL600 - Current

The M3 will be a pig compared to the 360 at 3000lbs.
As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.Comment

It would be really interested to compare that engine to the audi 4.2 v8 in the rs4.
"Not only does the RS4 have completely different engine internals, even the type of aluminum used in the RS4's block itself is exclusive to the RS4. This V8 engine runs an extremely high compression ratio of 12.5:1 and gives the RS4 a peak power rating of 420 horses at a very high 7,800 rpm. However, this is an Audi, so you know it has a very flat torque curve. Over 90 percent of its 315 lb.-ft. of torque is available from 2,250 and 7,600 rpm."
BMI is probably going to test both back to back soon.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205

Ya that dyno is sick! Torque curve has like a slope of zero, super flat. Peak torque isn't amazingly high but that is expected from a super high rev-ver like this. I'm surprised it weighs less than the S54...

The S62 is stated as weighing 158 kg, and the S50 (Euro) is at 152 kg. So, it's not hard to imagine paring off a little weight from an aluminum V8 to get it lighter than a conventional cast iron block. Still, it must be quite an accomplishment to make a casting and have it survive 8300 rpm on the bottom end.

peak #s don't mean dick. the torque curve on that motor is so flat, I don't think you will even care about the peak. that thing will pull and pull and pull, all the way to the redline.. 85% of your torque will be available at almost any RPM!I have always wanted a 3 series with a BMW V8.
