I don't think I can get all the stuff together that I'd need to swap the motor on my current budget, so I think I'm just going to pull the head and have it rebuilt, which should have been done 130,000 miles ago anyway. I need opinions now though, what else should I do as long as I have the head off? I have 19lb injectors that I'll put in, along with the coinciding MarkD chip, but I'm toying with the idea of getting a more aggressive cam too? It won't be super cheap when I'm done, but at least I'll have a balls out M20 to play with...

I'm not completely convinced that I want to DO the swap yet either... It's just a decision of if I should get a cam (I probably will) and what cam to get then. Do any of you have any experience with IE's reground 272 cam? I'll probably just go with a Shrick (but what duration...?) but the IE cam is so cheap that it's extremely tempting.

I know Chris (Nando) LOVES his 284/272 schrick. I always hear him raving about it. I would stay away from regrounds, unless they were from a solid billit and a direct copy of a schrick.

It's Ireland Engineering so I'm not sure what to think there.... If I can figure out the money I'll definitely go with a Schrick.

Before I could comment, I'd need the following info:

              1. Do you actually have your M5x motor in hand?

              2. How many miles on your M20, if it needed service 130K ago?

              3. What does stripping weight (int., etc.) have to do with you having mono, or why it ties into your spark plug situation?

If you have over 175-200K on the motor, I vote for the M5x, without question.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Just fix the hole and keep saving, get all the parts ready, get even the smallest washer you need, then swap, it's bad when you run out of money or parts in the middle of major work.

Sort of, it's in a wrecked car that my friend has, and he's said I can use it if I want to.

                    2. How many miles on your M20, if it needed service 130K ago?
That's an exageration, my boss and I were just talking about how M20s do well with a head rebuild every 100k or so. But yeah, it's got 230,000 miles.

                    3. What does stripping weight (int., etc.) have to do with you having mono, or why it ties into your spark plug situation?
I had mono for 3 1/2 months and after a while I got EXTREMELY bored and decided to take the interior out of my car and clean it all. It was cold out so I couldn't spend a long time out side so I just brought everything into my living room and went to work. Once it was all out I got gready and attacked my sound deadening with a hair dryer and a putty knife. My joke was that my car most have liked this idea and decided to shed some weight itself, starting with the spark plug...

I do, but the M52 I have is no spring chicken either. I don't remember the exact mileage at the present moment but it may be as high as 180,000.

I need my car back, and I need it back soon, so pulling the head is my best option right now. I already have 19lb injectors and will have a chip soon, I'm just thinking that as long as have to pull out the cam I might as well put somehing more potent in there.
