    Blew up 2 e30's today

So I go to jump in my eta to drive an hour to pick up a 325is. I just did a timing belt/water pump/cam seals/spark plugs/valve adjustments a few days ago. Crank it over, sounds like the valves are a mile out of adjustment. All of them. There's oil leaking from somewhere. Coolant leaking from somewhere. Oil spitting out of the exhaust. Something is seriously not good.

Fuck it, jump in the trusty Ford Explorer to go pick up this 87 325is for $500. Get there, it's mint - underneath some serious dirt and grime, it hasn't been cleaned in years. Zinneberot with black sport leather. Dude says driveshaft u-joints are bad, he wouldn't recommend driving it. I'm like, well the u-joints aren't gonna break, are you sure it's not the CSB? He's like nope, u-joints. So I'm like well then it will be fine. Jump in, go for a drive. Loud clunk, shifter launches to the side and nearly breaks my wrist. Guibo blew apart, launched the driveshaft into the shifter assembly and broke it. Car is in the middle of the road, in this rich neighborhood with 1/2 million dollar houses. I gave the guy 1/2 the money and told him I'd be back Sunday to pick it up.

I have an eta that sounds like a world war II machine gun, an 87 325is that's an hour away with a broken everything.

Ya know what, My Ford Explorer 5.0 V8 runs perfect, as it always has, with no work needing done. Too bad it doesn't bring a smile to my face while driving it.

PICS OF THE CARNAGE TO COME!!!!

Dude, great story. Sounds like that early "is" is a hell of a find. Still shiny?

WTF could have happened to the ETA to puke oil out the exhaust?

My '88 Astro is the same story as your Exploder. $500 got it home, ignition module and coil (spare parts from last Astro) got it running.

Idler arms (ALL Astros eat them), tires and oil changes. 30,000 miles so far...

Knock on wood. Get pic up of new car on sunday, right?

The car looks like a pile of shit. BUT, I see the potential. It's never been waxed, ever. I know it WILL be shiny with some hard work. The front air dam and fog lights are perfect. The interior is so fucking dirty... but the black leather is nice, no stains, no tears (besides drivers bolster). Dash has no cracks. Car is bone stock. Some very minor rust around tail lights, thats it. Seems very solid.

A drive shaft and shifter assembly (which I have spares of) will fix her right up. I'm going to do the z3 shifter and new trans seals/bushings while I'm in there though. She's got high miles (~250k) but idles better then any m20 I've ever heard. Has a valve cover gasket leak which the guy acted like it was a huge deal (wtf???).

I'm also going to do the timing belt/water pump/cam seals once the drive shaft is taken care of. Then it's on to the suspension and brakes. I'm hoping to have a solid, good looking track car for under $3000 (after I sell the stock parts).

Not gonna happen. I've parted out every other BMW I bought, and regret it. I will sell some stock parts (interior mainly), but it's definitely getting turned into a track car!

Don't post dibs on parts here... the stuff will be listed on my website soon.

Only on R3V would a guy blow up two cars and not give a damn.

"Oh no, my ETA exploded and killed a neighborhood child..... I guess it is time for a 2.5 swap"

No children were involved in the destruction of the m20b27 or the 325is driveshaft/shifter assembly.

                And it's time for a 10.2:1 2.7 stroker or a s50, NOT a m20b25 swap :)

It's only money. No reason to cry.

                :hitler:

I don't see any need for this smilie in my post, but it's pretty funny so there it is.

Similar thing happened to me too. I forgot to snug the bolts down on my wheels. The front wheel fell off, exploded, and killed a neighborhood child. I guess it was time for me to do a 5-lug swap.

That car you blew the driveshaft on sounds quite far from "mint". Track toy fine, but I just cant stand how people call beat to shit e30s mint based on potential.
