    dyno'd the m today

so i dyno'd the car today. the motor feels like it is coming close to that time for a rebuild, so i wanted to see what the car did completly stock before i rip it apart and throw on all the junk.

i made 164 @ 7300 and 150tq to the wheels, power didnt FALL off until 7700 (). which isnt bad. i was expecting about 155ish. it was on a dynojet. with 20% DR loss, thats a perfect 196 at the crank. it was a 90 degree day also, so it might have effected the dyno a little.

anyway, my question is this, at about 6000 rpm both my TQ and HP take a BIG slide down, but then they pick back up and carry on to redline. it makes no sense, the A/F is perfect all the way through. it did this on all three dyno atempts. and the car wasnt acting funny, but on the sheet you can see it. anyone have any ideas?

anyway, im happy with these numbers, time to throw in the cams, flywheel, LINK, and other shiot :-p

Those are some pretty good numbers for a motor that's destined for a rebuild. No idea on what could be causing your slight loss of power at the upper revs.

So when you rebuild, what are your plans? Stock? 2.5L? Other goodies?

That drop is a characteristic of all S14 engines. I believe it has something to do with exhaust scavenging? I've never seen an engine that doesn't do it.

Those look like good numbers though!

Tis true. All S14s take a dump as they approach 6k, just a quirk of them that I've never seen anybody able to cure.

Good numbers, are you still running the Link setup or is it bone stock now? Post the graphs if you can.

After I added my VAC head and 272 intake cam, pretty much all of my dip in power in the 6-6.5k range disappeared.

no that's stock stock. link and everytihng was off. i did one run with the link on just to see what my A/F looks like. i didnt have time to do much with it, my car was starting to over heat. the car made 167 whp without a tune. but over all (where it was tuned, atleast) the curve was greater. Up to 10-15 hp in some areas. now i need to schedule time and go in for the tune. :)

i think the motor is very good. its making factory numbers.

Not bad Shahe. Great numbers for a stock motor actually.

The dip is the AFM and stock cam timing.

Those are really good numbers, I would not rebuild it yet!! before mine went it did 156hp and 156 torque.

Did you also dyno it with the LINK setup? I know that will do a lot for you numbers and help get rid of that drop.

mike, its coming close to that time for a timing chain, plus i think im getting an intake leak (idle has been bumpy lately) depending on if a new e36 chain tensioner and intake gaskets do the trick, rebuild might not start until winter. but i was hoping id have all my parts by the end of summer.

as for the link, i posted about it in the previous post:

I believe that the intake design and resonance play a big part in the 6k rpm dip for the S14... I have seen it on many peoples graphs.
