BMW under attack..

Hello mello,

First Ford makes a bold commercial likening the Edge to an X5 saying that the Edge outperforms the BMW in acceleration. Yet I still don't even see any caption in fine print specifying which model X5 :razz:

Then we see the new Volvo S80 commericial taking on BMW and Lexus. Well Volvo is a reputable brand but look who's behind the commercial -> Ford again.

Now the BEST ONE OUT OF ALL is the commerical I saw last night..

The frikkin Hyundai Sonata GLS!! being comparted to a BMW. It was either a 325i or 525i they were trashing saying that the Sonata outperforms it and had a larger cabin all costing $20,000 less.

I wish BMW would make a simple yet arrogant commerical stating along the lines of " Only a BMW can be compared to a BMW"; and express clearly the desparation other marques have to compare and still use BMW as a benchmark.

Hahah, i saw that commercial. That was complete bullshit. They are comparing the most expensive bmw 530i with the cheapest base model hyundai. It's all bullshit.. I hate ford. in every way

Yea but BMW year after year brings in huge profit for selling massive amounts of cars... Why? Because their customer base doesn't need a commercial telling them how shitty every other car is ;)

I bet no one has ever heard some one say, "Man, I'll never buy any other car except Hyundais ever again." But I bet you've heard it plenty of times referring to bimmers.

I'll defend BMW up and down and all over the place, but sorry, I think the X3 and X5 are ugly and cheap looking. Also, what happened with the new 3 series!?!? I mean damn, the e46 was so hot, now they look like Mazdas.

BMW used to make arrogant commercials regarding the competition.. i'll have to try to find some.

One i remember went something like "BMW more than just whats on paper"

Its very similar to how they have these gimmicky gizmos on TV that claim to do all of the stuff that hundreds of dollars in "real" tools can't do. But understand that when a product advertisement compares itself to the "leading brand" then there is a good reason why it is the LEADING brand.

Car companies have been doing that for years. Back in the 80's there was this commercial for the Toyota Supra where 2 couples are standing outside of this fancy resturant as the valet brings one couple's expensive luxury sports car up to the front. The guy brags about his car's performance, handling, etc.. and then when they bring the Supra up, the other guy says, "yeah, well my Toyota can do all of that, PLUS I get more miles to the gallon and I paid $18,000 less!"

you can take this as a compliment towards BMW. they make the cars that everyone else aspires to. pretty much every company has been comparing themselves to BMW lately.

a really funny one I saw last week was the VW passat 2.0 vs a BMW 5 series (unknown model, probably a base 525i). The BMW guy takes a ride in the VW and is like "wow, your car is so fast". 7.8 second 0-100km is apparently "really fast". LOL

remember years back when they drag raced a jeep cherokee against a BMW 325i? (or was it a 320i). of course the jeep won the race (top of the line vs. base model). But guess which car they removed when it came for the 60-0mph braking test? :D

as it stands the bmw M3 is STILL the measuring stick by which ALL performance cars are compared to.

Those people are clearly only trying to close the deal with those out there already in the market/class for a Ford or Hyundai. IMO, they're only trying to make buyers and/or potential buyers feel better about their purchase. Who in their right mind, who also happens to be able to pay more for a BMW, is going to see that commercial and think, "you know what, on second thought, instead of taking this money I am able to invest in a superior car, I'm just going to save some money and go with that Hyundai."

Shit, please.....

If one has the money, and is not ignorant, they wouldn't even entertain the option.
